In the role of Legal Counsel – Compliance, you will help achieve this by leading all aspects of the SEA region operations to meet high ethics, integrity, and regulatory standards. You will be a trusted guide for business leaders, focusing on early detection of risks, reinforcing compliance structures, and promoting responsible growth.

What You Will Do

Legal & Compliance Advisory

  • Provide practical and business-focused legal advice on compliance matters, including anti-bribery and corruption (ABAC), data privacy, competition law, third-party risk, and industry-specific regulations.
  • Review, assess, and support commercial contracts, distributor agreements, and third-party engagements with an emphasis on compliance requirements.
  • Guide local leadership and functional teams on compliance-related questions, policy interpretation, and risk mitigation strategies.

Compliance Program Implementation

  • Support implementation of Thermo Fisher’s global anti bribery and data privacy compliance program in South East Asia, ensuring alignment with corporate policies and local regulatory expectations.
  • Conduct compliance risk assessments and partner with cross-functional collaborators (Commercial, Finance, HR, Supply Chain, Regulatory, and Quality).
  • Lead or support internal compliance investigations, working closely with global and regional compliance teams.
  • Coordinate compliance certifications, policy rollouts, and local governance processes.

Training & Awareness

  • Develop and provide compliance training programs for employees, channel partners, and other relevant collaborators.
  • Promote a strong culture of ethics and accountability through ongoing education and awareness activities.
  • Collaborate with global compliance partners to localize training content for SEA audiences.

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Lead monitoring activities, external due diligence, gifts and hospitality reviews, conflict-of- interest disclosures, and compliance audits.
  • Support reporting obligations to regional and global compliance leadership.
  • Run local compliance metrics, remediation actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B); admission to the Malaysian Bar strongly preferred.
  • 4–7 years of relevant legal/compliance experience, ideally with a multinational corporation or reputable law firm.
  • Experience in ABAC, privacy laws, or internal investigations is an advantage.
  • Exposure to life sciences, healthcare, manufacturing, or regulated industries.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of SEA regulatory and corporate governance frameworks.
  • Ability to translate regulations in multiple jurisdictions into clear, practical advice for business partners.
  • Ability to work in a matrixed, multicultural environment across APAC.

What We Offer

  • Opportunities for professional growth within a global organization.
  • A united culture committed to ethical standards, safety, and steady advancement.
  • Competitive pay and benefits consistent with Thermo Fisher’s worldwide criteria.
