The opportunity

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Quality Engineer to join our production plant in Jumet, Belgium. In this hands-on role, you will be the voice of the customer on site and a key driver of our quality culture—leading problem-solving, operational quality assurance, and continuous improvement across the plant and supply base. You will implement and maintain the local Quality Management System, ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and internal standards, and act as backup to the Quality Manager for site quality operations. The preferred base is Jumet (Charleroi area). This role is primarily on-site; limited hybrid flexibility may be possible depending on operational needs. Occasional domestic and international travel (approx. 10%) is expected.

How you’ll make an impact

• Lead end-to-end customer complaint resolution, perform root-cause analysis, and drive CAPA with closed-loop feedback.

• Serve as the voice of the customer; coordinate qualification and communicate quality performance and improvements.

• Manage internal and supplier nonconformities, including rapid containment, risk assessment, and structured problem solving (8D, 5-Why).

• Oversee deviation/waiver requests, assess risks, and implement mitigations.

• Plan and execute product, process, and internal audits (incl. GQSA); track and close findings; support external/ISO audits.

• Implement and maintain the local QMS/IMS aligned with ISO 9001 and PGHV; own ADONIS documentation and deliver quality training.

• Drive Cost of Poor Quality reduction via improvement projects; report KPIs and facilitate Lessons Learned.

• Coach teams on APQP, SPC, MSA, capability analysis, and Six Sigma; champion a strong safety, integrity, and quality culture.

Your background

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

• 2–10+ years of manufacturing quality experience (junior/regular/senior) in lean/QMS environments.

• Proficient in 8D, APQP, SPC, sampling, process capability, and PFMEA; Six Sigma certification is a plus.

• Solid metrology and MSA knowledge; experienced with supplier quality, nonconformities, deviations, and audits.

• Strong customer orientation and cross-functional leadership; proficient in French and English (spoken and written).

• Willing to travel up to 10% and live Hitachi Energy’s core values of safety and integrity.
