Volunteer Description:

Unpaid volunteer contributing time to Intermountain Healthcare in various roles.

Emergency Room Volunteer-

Volunteers are needed to assist staff, patients and families in the Emergency Department. Due to the nature of the department each day will be different, and volunteers will need to be flexible and able to adapt to the needs of each shift.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Interacting with patients and families waiting to be admitted and providing them with comfort/distractions items for the wait.

  • Assisting in transporting patients to rooms.

  • Rounding on patient rooms to offer toys, comfort items or food where applicable.

  • Assisting with support roles such as cleaning toys and restocking supplies.

  • Assisting the nursing and child life staff as instructed. 

Volunteers are expected to come for one three hour shift each week and are asked to commit to 100 hours of volunteering.

Below are the current shift times with openings.

Available shifts:

Monday 3:00-6:00pm

Tuesday 12:00-3:00pm

Thursday 3:00-6:00pm or 6:00-9:00pm

Friday 6:00-9:00pm

Saturday 9:00-11:30pm

Sunday 12:00-3:00pm, 6:00-9:00pm or 9:00-11:30pm

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old and graduated from high school.

  • Able to follow and execute instructions.

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • Able to work with children in varying age groups.

  • Able to work well with diverse populations.

  • Able to work in a clinical environment-this role is best suited for those who are actively pursuing a future in the medical field.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Sensitive to patient and family situations and dynamics.
