The IT Project Group Manager is responsible for leading a portfolio of IT projects and programs, ensuring alignment with business strategy and successful delivery of outcomes. This role oversees multiple project managers, drives governance, manages stakeholder expectations, and ensures that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget while maintaining high quality standards.

  • Lead and manage a group of IT projects/programs across business units.

  • Define portfolio strategy aligned with organizational priorities and IT roadmap.

  • Ensure effective planning, execution, monitoring, and closure of projects.

  • Track portfolio health, risks, dependencies, and inter-project impacts.

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of project/program managers.

  • Drive a high-performance culture with clear accountability and ownership.

  • Support career development, succession planning, and capability building within the team.

  • Provide guidance on complex project challenges and decision-making.

  • Act as a key interface between IT, business leaders, and external stakeholders.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior leadership.

  • Provide regular, transparent updates to executive stakeholders on progress, risks, and outcomes.

  • Influence strategic decision-making through effective communication and insights.

  • Establish and enforce project management standards, frameworks, and best practices (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid).

  • Ensure compliance with organizational governance, risk, and audit requirements.

  • Monitor KPIs including schedule adherence, cost management, quality, and benefits realization.

  • Drive continuous improvement in delivery methodologies and processes.

  • Own budget planning and financial tracking for the project portfolio.

  • Optimize resource allocation across projects to maximize efficiency and delivery outcomes.

  • Manage vendor contracts, procurement processes, and third-party delivery partners.

  • Ensure cost control while delivering business value.

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks across projects proactively.

  • Resolve escalations and critical issues impacting delivery.

  • Ensure contingency planning and business continuity considerations.

  • Align IT initiatives with long-term business and digital transformation goals.

  • Drive innovation by identifying opportunities to leverage new technologies.

  • Support organizational change management associated with large-scale IT initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years experience in a related technology role with commensurate people management experience


Education:

  • Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience, potentially Masters degree
