The Opportunity
The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is recruiting a Summer Student to assist our talented Compliance Assurance Team (CAT) in the Regulatory Compliance branch. As a Student, Compliance Assurance, you will assist in delivering the AER’s compliance assurance program by working alongside compliance professionals to promote, verify, and enforce compliance across the province. This role offers valuable insight into the AER’s compliance assurance program and contributes to enhancing industry accountability and performance, ensuring the AER's mandate is upheld. Responsibilities include analyzing, investigating, and evaluating compliance information, as well as coordinating, monitoring, and managing comprehensive compliance files.You will collaborate with CAT members and other AER teams to help implement effective actions and best practices that drive successful outcomes.
What your day-to-day will look like:
Evaluate, prioritize, and manage comprehensive compliance files, gathering relevant information, conducting investigations and assessments, and developing briefing packages to recommend the most effective regulatory actions.
Support the development of compliance action plans and assist staff with regulatory principles, available options, and enforcement tools.
Engage in project-based work, which will be aligned with the activities and initiatives of the Compliance Assurance Team.
Collaborate with team members to assist with tasks outlined above. As a fresh perspective, your insights and suggestions will be valued.
What we’re looking for in you:
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Government Affairs, Criminology, Science, Business, Oil and Gas, or a related field.
Experience in working in a public or private sector is an asset.
Proficient with common business tools and systems, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, and Adobe is preferred. A quick learner with technology in general, and comfortable exploring and developing competency in new systems.
An effective communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to balance professionalism with a personable approach, adapting tone as needed for different situations. A collaborative team player who contributes positively and makes a meaningful impact.
Additional Information:
Proof of enrollment in a registered post-secondary institution including enrollment in the semester following the work term, or enrollment in a registered co-op program will be a condition of hire.
