Job Description Summary
This position is responsible for the safe start up, operation, sanitation and shutdown of equipment for all production lines from the even flows through cutting.
Job Description
Maintain 5S standards, (Sort, Set, Systematize, Shine and Sustain). Keep a neat, clean, orderly work area.
Always maintains and promotes safe work practices, assures that safe work practices are being followed in all work groups, and actively participates in safety programs.
Must understand and follow all applicable plant safety policies including but not limited to lockout / tagout procedures.
Start and stop all processing equipment in the pit room, peel room, pre-heater room, and cutter deck/room.
Monitor and adjust raw product flow out of even flows for all production lines. Communicate raw product flow problems to the Team Leader.
Monitor and adjust equipment as directed by the Team Leader.
Operate the peel removal equipment.
Ensure all peel room equipment is operating properly. Notify Team Leader immediately if any problems are detected.
Record raw product volume, equipment time and temperature settings on the line settings form.
Regulate peel time and batch weight as directed by the Team Leader.
Clear gun plug-ups and change knives as necessary or directed by the Team Leader.
Ensure correct blades are being used during processing runs and cut changes.
Operate the hydro cutters and water knife systems, including routine cut quality checks
Operate and monitor the Urschel cutters.
Work closely with production maintenance during periods of break down or shut down to ensure mechanical problems are clearly communicated and resolved.
Monitor pulp and peel concentrations and notify Team Leader if levels are below set requirements.
Operate starch recovery system. Clean extractors when needed or as directed by the Team Leader.
Communicate all line stoppages and interruptions with Team Leader and all affected operating personnel.
Help train new personnel in the Peel Room Operator position.
Monitors and adjusts water systems in area of control.
Complete CILs and Centerlines on designated equipment per schedule
Monitor core temps out of preheaters for optimized cutting efficiency
Keep working area clean of product buildup and address upset condition spills in prompt fashion to mitigate safety concerns.
Perform other related duties as assigned by Team Leader personnel.
Cleans and sanitizes assigned work area during shutdown/defrost as scheduled.
Basic & Preferred Qualifications
Education/ Certifications: (Required & Preferred)
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
Skills and Experience:
Ability to work with the following equipment: evenflows through the cutting and raw sizing areas, Process Control System, cleaning equipment (air hoses, water hoses, scrappers, broom, shovels, squeegees, wheelbarrows, foamers and necessary safety equipment (plant PPE, chemical suits and rubber sanitation boots)
Have the ability and willingness to follow instructions.
Read, understand, and obey all plant rules and practice safety as outlined in the employee handbook.
Be conscientious and consistent in his/her work.
Be knowledgeable of proper body mechanics and safe lifting techniques.
Be knowledgeable of the potential hazards and safety procedures associated with the task being done.
Actively practice and abide by all Company work, safety and personal hygiene rules and regulations as outlined in the employee handbook.
Physical Environment/Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently.
Exposed to a noisy environment that varies from hot to cold in temperature
Exposure to manufacturing environments for up to 8 hours per work day to include: loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, slippery conditions, dirt, fumes, smoke, smells and allergies
Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist and hand movements required for job actions and procedures.
Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment.
Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties. Ability to operate work related equipment
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Exposed to temperatures ranging from -20 degrees below zero to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in Freezer Operation and 37 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Plant Operation
Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders on a regular basis
Will regularly work near moving mechanical parts.
