Job Summary

The primary purpose of this role is to maximize margin by category by defining a margin and promotional strategy that is aligned to consumer/shopper segments, benchmarked against competitive opportunities, margin building, basket building and traffic driving metrics. The goal of the role will be to deliver impactful margin results and leading promotional offer strategy, guidance, governance and architecture based on internal, competitive, and market data.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze key performance indicators of promotional offer strategies; Executes promotional event administration process to ensure that promotions are set up in a timely and accurate manner and that all internal controls related to promotion are being followed; Establish a Strategic Promotional Framework with Category Management to create promotional strategies by category.
  • Leverage data analytics and tools to identify vendor funding variances, promotional optimization, assortment affinities, channel productivity, all-in margin, inventory improvements; Collaborate with our Category Management teams to understand internal customer shopping patterns, opportunities, and the implications for the different areas of our business; Support CRM Promotional strategies and integrate customer data, channels of business, and promotional results in new ways to deepen customer relationships and drive profitable retail business growth; Identify key insights from analyses, cutting through large amounts of data to quickly identify trends and implications on sourcing strategy & approach
  • Translate insights into action, reporting on findings to category management and senior management. Use analytics to prepare for critical promotional management and support promotional funding negotiations; Identify promotional opportunities and gaps by understanding of the business and application of quantitative and qualitative industry, consumer, and syndicated insights

Bachelor Degree

Ideally in from a merchandise / retailer background (e.g. vendor management, merchandise strategy, strategic consulting, etc.); or equivalent combination of education and experience

-Superior analytical and quantitative skills, comfortable with complex financial data

-Proficiency in analytics tools (Excel required, experience with Tableau/ Power BI, Alteryx, Matlab, Minitab)

-Strong financial knowledge & business acumen

-Highly polished communication skills (written and verbal) to translate insights into reports for leadership teams and supporting best in class negotiations

-Experience creating and setting annual operating plans

-Ability to operate simultaneously and effectively in both tactical and strategic modes

-Track record of results in setting strategy and running a large volume, high-profile business

-Ability to think and react in a high-energy, fast paced environment

-Strong problem-solving skills:

o Ability to take ambiguous problem and structure analytics to solve that problem

o Ability to overcome roadblocks proactively and independently in working complex data sets

o Ability to “cut through the noise” of large, complex, and sometimes imperfect data sets to focus on the analysis that matters

-Passion for using data to solve complex problems

WORK EXPERIENCE

The typical starting pay range for this position is between [$66,500 - $100,025], although wages can vary based on experience and geography.”
