Job Description

Who We Are

The Office of the Commandant (OOC) serves and supports departments within the Corps of Cadets that are critically engaged in all aspects of student development and the delivery of key services and support.  OOC departments work to create environments that help students grow, develop, learn, and enhance their experience at Texas A&M by providing leadership opportunities, experiential education, and connections beyond the classroom.  This position will be part of a centralized team that supports the active recruiting efforts of future cadets and their families to Texas A&M and the Corps of Cadets

What We Want

The SOMS 111 Instructor for the School of Military Sciences will be teaching undergraduate leadership courses. The instructor will teach undergraduate courses and prepare syllabi, course materials and delivery with instruction in a classroom setting. This is a temporary, part-time position.

What You Need To Know

Salary: $4,000.00/month

Additional Details: Courses will be taught 8:00am – 5:00pm - Monday through Thursday every Fall semester. May work outside normal hours to meet student needs and/or to hold office hours.

Responsibilities

Teaching

  • Teaches undergraduate leadership courses. Prepares syllabi, course materials and delivery with instruction in a classroom setting.

  • Participates in intensive classroom instruction and practical exercises.

  • Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensure engagement.

  • Effectively teaches Texas A&M University core values of Excellence, Leadership, Loyalty, Integrity, Respect and Selfless service.

  • Instills a commitment to the Corps of Cadets core values of Honor, Courage, Integrity, Discipline and Selfless Service.

  • Provides tutoring and grade classroom assignments.

  • Maintains class related records and assesses coursework.

  • Facilitates a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and ability to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds

Mentoring

  • Provides coaching and mentorship to students.

  • Meets with students outside of class and holds office hours for students.

Qualifications

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in business, management, social sciences, leadership education or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters.

  • Teaching experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Requires ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Knowledge of potential applications to pedagogy, programming and service activity, nonprofit organization structure and operations.
