Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: other duties may be assigned:

  • Lead the architectural direction on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for foundational retail systems, including commerce platforms, distributed POS, edge computing, and applied AI workloads.

  • Define, own, and enforce cloud architecture standards, design patterns, and best practices across multiple engineering teams to ensure scalability, security, resilience, and cost efficiency.

  • Drive enterprise modernization strategies on GCP, including cloud‑native adoption, containerized platforms (GKE), event‑driven architectures, and composable services, aligned with long‑term business and technology strategy.

  • Solve high‑complexity, large‑scale engineering problems, such as real‑time pricing, low‑latency APIs, globally distributed systems, and highly available platforms running on GCP.

  • Act as a force multiplier through hands‑on design, coding, prototyping, and technical storytelling, influencing architecture and outcomes well beyond individual contributions.

  • Write production‑quality code and automated tests, and take ownership of the technical delivery, reliability, performance, and operational health of critical systems or major domains.

  • Review architecture designs and code developed by other engineers, providing actionable feedback to uphold engineering excellence, cloud best practices, and security standards.

  • Lead and participate in architecture and design reviews with engineers, architects, and stakeholders, making informed decisions among available technologies and GCP‑native services.

  • Mentor senior engineers, architects, and technical leads, serving as a role model and thought leader in cloud engineering, distributed systems, and GCP best practices.

  • Partner closely with Architecture, Engineering, and Technology Leadership to translate strategic vision into execution with measurable engineering and business impact.

  • Stay ahead of industry trends in cloud computing, retail technology, and Google Cloud innovations, proactively introducing relevant capabilities into the platform ecosystem

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, or infrastructure engineering, with at least 4–5 years working in cloud‑native environments.

  • Deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services, including but not limited to GKE, Compute Engine, Cloud Networking, IAM, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, Cloud SQL/Spanner, and related services.

  • Strong hands‑on experience designing and building cloud‑native, distributed systems at scale.

  • Proven experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes/GKE), microservices architectures, and event‑driven systems.

  • Strong programming experience in one or more languages such as Java, Go, Python, or similar, including writing production‑quality code and automated tests.

  • Experience defining and enforcing architecture standards, design patterns, and best practices across multiple teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve high‑complexity technical problems, including performance, scalability, availability, and reliability challenges.

  • Solid understanding of cloud security, networking, identity, and cost optimization (FinOps) principles.

  • Experience leading or heavily influencing architecture and design reviews across engineering teams.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence engineers, architects, and senior stakeholders.

  • Proven experience mentoring senior engineers and technical leads.
