Job Description

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for IT Support Specialist, School of Nursing [R0144996].

ROLE of the POSITION

The IT Support Specialist provides technical assistance and support for IT resources to faculty and staff in the School of Nursing. The IT Support Specialist troubleshoots and resolves technical issues, maintains information about IT assets, and works with the Educational Technology and Innovation manager to ensure the efficient utilization of these resources within the school. The IT Support Specialist provides excellent customer service, communicates effectively with users, and contributes to IT projects and initiatives. 

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Analyze, diagnose, and resolve software, hardware, and configuration problem on office computers and peripherals.

  • In addition to face-to-face support, use tools like email, chat, phone, online conferencing and remote desktop support to maximize efficiency and customer satisfaction.

  • Effectively manage field support appointments.

  • Communicate issues, status and changes to both technical and non-technical customers.

  • Ensure timely updates of assigned requests.

  • Offer support and guidance in the effective use of available information technology resources.

  • Document all client interactions, issues, and resolutions accurately and thoroughly in the IT service management system.

  • Set up new or relocate existing computers and IT hardware as required.

  • Manage inventory of computer and other IT hardware.

  • Assist with IT projects to improve quality and availability of IT resources for School of Nursing faculty and staff relating to teaching and research, such as IT system upgrades, migrations, and new information technology implementations.

  • Procure new hardware as required and ensure proper fulfillment by tracking hardware through the procurement process.

  • Convert exam or test bank questions written by SON faculty or other subject matter experts to current Question & Test Interoperability (QTI) standards for use within our learning management system.

  • Where required, assist the Educational Technology Manager with projects to ensure that SON courses are accessible to learners as required by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Titles II and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

  • Provide prompt and professional assistance to clients experiencing IT related issues, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.

  • Act as a liaison between clients and technical teams, ensuring clear communication and a seamless customer experience.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients by consistently delivering exceptional service and support.

  • Assist users in understanding new technologies and software updates, ensuring they feel confident and empowered in their use

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 1-3 years experience in troubleshooting and resolving computer and other IT issues for end users in complex organizations as well as remediating digital content for accessibility. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred experience working with academic faculty in a higher education setting.
