Job Description:

Under the direction of nursing leadership, the Unit Coordinator/ Patient Care Tech facilitates unit organization and patient care by assisting in the coordination of patient, nursing, physician, and other health care provider office and clerical activities.

📍 Location: Riverton Hospital – Riverton, Utah

🏢 Department/Unit: Newborn Intensive Care (NICU)

📅 Shifts: Full-time | 40 hours/week | Four 10-hour shifts

🕒 Schedule: 3pm to 1am with rotating weekends

💵 Pay: Starting at $18.40+ (based on patient care experience)

We are a specialized hospital unit for newborns who are premature, have low birth weight, or have serious health conditions. Our units provide intensive medical care and around-the-clock monitoring from a team of specialists to help fragile infants survive and recover. Neonatologists, NICU nurses, Critical Care Techs, Respiratory Therapists and other specialists work together to provide expert care, nutritional support, and family support to meet babies’ unique health care needs.  

Job Essentials

Collaboration:
Collaborates and consults with RN and other members of the interdisciplinary team for best patient care.
Demonstrate effective teamwork, prioritization, communication, and organization.
Performs non-nursing duties as delegated (e.g., cleaning, stocking, answering phones, clerical support, providing directions).
Implements plan of care as delegated.
Performs assigned duties within Scope of Practice and performs specialized procedures with skill validation and according to regulatory standards. Fosters a safe environment by complying with the safety policy and taking appropriate action in an emergency.

Patient Care Support and Clerical Activities:
Answer patient call lights.
Schedules tests and treatments as ordered.
May provide access control to visitor entrance to secure units.
Answers unit telephones and disseminates information appropriately.
Processes, organizes, files and maintains patient and unit records.
Transcribes physician orders.
Acts as unit receptionist.
May organize, stock and maintain supplies on the unit.

Patient Care:
Prioritizes and delivers basic patient care which may include toileting, bathing, linen and clothing changes, fresh water and ice, ambulating, comfort measures, and other patient needs.
Assists with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.
Provides excellent customer service when responding to patient and family requests.
Reports and records patient care findings and data in a timely manner. Reports changes in the patient condition quickly and secures qualified assistance as needed.
 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) in the state of practice.

  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.

  • Demonstrated basic computer literacy skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

At the time of hire, Utah candidates must meet one of the following:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant Certification in the state of Utah.

    • If CNA certificate is expired, must be renewed before start date.

  • Completion of a recent Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program.

    • Verification of CNA program completion is required (program must have been completed within the past (1) year).

    • CNA certification must be obtained within 120 days of hire.

  • Completion of a Fundamentals of Nursing Course.

    • Must have earned a passing grade within the past two (2) years. Official transcript is required.

    • CNA certification must be obtained within 120 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior CNA experience or applicable healthcare experience.

  • Experience in a hospital setting.

Physical Requirements

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.- and -Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.- and -Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.- and -Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and -Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).- and -May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$18.40 - $23.92
