Our regulatory permissions and governance structure are the foundations of our business. We are regulated and supervised as an Authorised Electronic Money Institution (AEMI) in the UK by the Financial Conduct Authority and in the Netherlands by De Nederlandsche Bank.

The role

Summary

This role sits within our Partner Oversight team which is responsible for the ongoing monitoring of
clients we designate as partners (and who will provide e-money services to their onward clients
typically under our licence) to ensure they have the correct controls in place and are operating
within Modulr’s risk and compliance framework. Partner Oversight is a key part of Modulr’s first line
compliance operations, executing processes to mitigate risks to Modulr and their customers as they
relate to Financial Crime, Consumer Protection, Financial and Operational Resilience. The Oversight
role is a multidisciplinary one including regular client engagement to discuss data and business
intelligence, sample checking, and analysis and investigations work collaborating with internal
stakeholders. Analysts also need to have a deep understanding of how our partners are operating to
identify and mitigate regulatory and commercial risks. You will play a key role in supporting these
activities and in the growth and development of our team of analysts.

As we’re a small team, this is a hands-on role; you’ll need to be comfortable getting into the detail
and be happy to suggest improvements. You will have experience with leading a team and delivering
results, have a good understanding of the regulatory landscape that Modulr operates in and be
comfortable with driving change and guaranteeing operational excellence.

 Specific duties

Depending on the project, you will need to be comfortable doing the following: 

  • Lead a team of Oversight Analysts within the broader Oversight function, with line
    management responsibilities for 3+ team members.
  • Be a subject matter expert within the Oversight team, supporting colleagues with complex
    and challenging client issues, ensuring these are managed to completion.
  • Manage high-risk or complex cases for partners that are under enhanced monitoring, taking
    the lead to ensure remediation plans are completed and evidenced before being
    transitioned back to business as usual.
  • Uphold Modulr’s policy frameworks and procedures and ensure these are followed
    accurately during BAU processes.
  • Own quality assurance of Oversight team members to ensure activities are being performed
    to the required standard.
  • Mentor, support and develop new and existing members of the Oversight team.
  • Identify opportunities to continuously improve our systems and processes in line with the
    requirements of the function and changing regulatory landscape.
  • Focus on stakeholder management, working collaboratively with functions across Modulr
    and building strong partnerships with clients.
  • Work with the Oversight Manager to produce consistent and effective MI reporting to
    demonstrate performance as part of formal governance and oversight.

About you

The successful Partner Oversight Lead will have a track-record in delivering results in a fast-moving scaling business and hence you must be comfortable with change and uncertainty. More specifically the ideal candidate will have: 

  • You’re passionate about protecting the business, whilst also supporting rapid growth.
  • You love rolling up your sleeves and doing whatever’s required to achieve the goals of the
    compliance team and wider business.
  • You have strong stakeholder management skills and can work collaboratively with internal
    and external stakeholders. You will be comfortable acting as a point of escalation, engaging
    with and guiding partners on their activity and actions required to comply with regulations
  • You enjoy leading, mentoring and supporting other members of your team.
  • You are comfortable making decisions/recommendations on a risk based approach and
    supporting others to do so
  • You have experience operating in a regulated business, ideally with the understanding and
    implementation of company AML and CTF policies and procedures, adopting a risk-based
    approach to ensure controls are proportionate and relevant to the business in question.
  • You’re structured and organised, able to handle the competing pressures of immediate
    compliance tasks and investigations alongside longer term projects.
  • You’re comfortable working in an early-stage business, where time is critical, and things
    change frequently.
  • You’re analytical and can assess risks and define appropriate controls based on these,
    communicating the links, effectiveness and any potential gaps clearly to others.
  • You’re excited about the prospect of taking ownership of compliance processes, whilst
    ensuring that they evolve so that the compliance programme continues to be aligned to the
    business’s growth plans.
  • You enjoy sharing your knowledge and ideas about how we can improve.
  • You’ve a strong interest in FinTech and financial crime and have a high level understanding
    of how fintech businesses work and are financed
