Job Description:

Your new role

Location is Remote, with some travel to UK and European sites

Hitachi Rail are implementing a number of high profile complex multi-phased IT Projects across multiple locations, to deliver improvements in areas such as End User Computing, Network Consolidation and IT Service Desk and are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join their team. Working as part of the IT PMO, alongside the Business Relationship Manager’s, the IT Project Manager (Infra & Ops - EUC) is ultimately responsible for leading cross-functional teams to define, scope, plan, execute and deliver exceptional business value and benefits on time and within budget

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Establish and lead a project team for approved IT Projects, including management of Internal and external resources assigned to the project.
  • Ensure execution of projects within specified timeframes and budget in accordance with declared quality and benefit targets, using defined IT PMO framework, controls, processes and support tools.
  • Establish and maintain governance arrangements for the delivery of projects, defining clear roles, responsibilities and accountabilities that align with organisational practice in accordance with direction from IT Project Management Office.
  • Prepare and maintain definitions of the requirements of the project and determine the best means of satisfying requirements within the context of project objectives and constraints.
  • Manage the project delivery programme, preparing and maintaining project schedules and resolution of any schedule conflicts
  • Develop and manage project budgets with project delivery leads, taking overall ownership for budget management, forecasting and reporting of project spend.
  • Provide accurate resource forecasts at any point in time for use in decision making around project request management, release planning or change impact analysis.
  • Actively identify and manage associated project RAID (risks & opportunities, assumptions, issues and dependencies), implementing responses to avoid any impact to overall projects
  • Actively manage changes impacting project delivery programme (time, scope and costs)
  • Act as first point of escalation for the project, managing and escalating key issues affecting the project delivery programme to relevant stakeholders.
  • Adher to the Transition Methodology to ensure a smooth transfer from Projects to IT Support without any service disruption. Support the integration of project outputs into business-as-usual, addressing the readiness of users, compatibility of work systems and the realisation of benefits.
  • Ensure all required project management documentation is created and maintained to appropriate standards, including: business case, Project Initiation Document (PID), project plans, management reports, RAID and change logs
  • Ensure detailed and up-to-date system documentation is produced \ maintained and agreed upfront with IT Support Teams for the IT solutions being delivered and delivered to agreed timescales.
  • Actively support to the implementation and deployment of required framework, methodologies, process and procedures in accordance with direction from IT Project Management Office.
  • Continuously demonstrate the principles of professional project management and governance, providing a consistently reliable service to sponsors, key stakeholders and colleagues.

About you

  • Strong general knowledge of IT applications, infrastructure and hardware.
  • Experience of at least one significant project life cycle including transition into support from a large, multi-disciplined IT project.
  • The ability to operate in a dynamic and rapidly expanding environment, requiring flexible thinking and regular collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in delivering IT projects globally across time zones and cultures
  • Experience in managing global teams required to deliver projects.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead senior Steering Groups, and manage senior stakeholders.
  • Strong planning and problem solving skills

Qualifications

  • Relevant Project Management Qualification.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience of providing IT Project Management in Engineering, Manufacturing and Operational Service & Maintenance environments, and good understanding of supporting IT Infrastructure.
  • An appreciation of SOX (where possible JSOX) / COBIT framework, associated methodologies and practices to ensure fully compliant support and maintenance.
