The Group Benefits Life Claims team is looking for a customer-focused, forward thinking individual with strong decision-making abilities to join the team as a Critical Illness Claims Assessor. Reporting to the Associate Manager, Life Claims, you will be responsible for the overall review, assessment, calculation and final decision on Critical Illness claims. The successful candidate will primarily be assessing Critical Illness claims, and will act as an additional level of support for the group life team if needed.

Your ability to demonstrate empathy for ill and grieving individuals, while maintaining a level of professionalism and customer focus is a must in this role.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Review coverage, eligibility, enrolment, beneficiary information, and supporting medical reports.

  • Confirm contract provisions and calculate eligible benefits.

  • Prepare claims system records for payment.

  • Communicate decisions to claimants and group clients.

  • Assist plan sponsors with queries and support claimants in obtaining necessary documentation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Previous Life/disability claims experience would be beneficial

  • Understanding of medical terminology

  • Interpretation of contractual wording

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence internal and external clients at all levels

  • Ability to demonstrate empathy for grieving families

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Teams, MS Word and Excel)

  • Solid judgment - the ability to recognize quickly what needs to be done in order to satisfy the expectations

  • Proven analytical, organization, time management and decision-making skills

  • Ability to work effectively individually and with a team

  • Proven ability to prioritize and meet deadlines and specific turn-around times

  • Flexibility to adapt to change and work additional hours as business needs require

  • Ability to assess risk with each decision

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual (French & English) preferred - The successful candidate may be required to communicate in English and French in order to support clients from various jurisdictions.

  • Insurance industry experience specifically with Group Benefits preferred

Salary range is expected to be between

$40,800.00 CAD - $68,000.00 CAD
