Role Summary and Purpose
This role will be required to coordinate and monitor the Company’s inwards reinsurance accounting and work diligently on a broad range of finance related tasks, interacting with multiple disciplines across finance, underwriting, claims, actuarial, IT and senior management located across several jurisdictions. The role will require a candidate with strong analytical, technical and communication skills, a high level of information systems literacy, with a strong focus on attention to detail. They will need to be self-motivated, well organized, able to manage projects and prioritize a broad range of activities.
Key Skills & Responsibilities
Operations - The role is responsible for coordinating and monitoring the Company’s reinsurance business with joint oversight of the operations members / underwriting assistants who are directly responsible for handling all contract bookings, cash transactions and processing all aspects of claim notifications. In addition, the role is responsible for providing adhoc support to the underwriting team and other colleagues as required in relation to these matters.
Build, enhance and maintain process documentation to facilitate training, learning and support of the reinsurance accounting team
Provide technical support to reinsurance accountants and the underwriting team in relation to treatment of complex or unique contracts, documenting such support in a manner to facilitate learning and future ease of application
Monitor the reinsurance operations team to ensure reinsurance accounting transactions are captured appropriately, accurately, and completely in a timely manner in the policy administration system
Monitor reinsurance operations to ensure that all relevant deadlines and SOX requirements are met
Continuously seek process efficiencies and propose implementation / work re-organization plans
Undertake / support internal projects related to reinsurance transactional data, processes, systems migrations, or enhancements, etc. as required
Undertake / support the integration and development of external initiatives i.e. electronic data interchange
Finance - The role will be a key member of the financial reporting team and work alongside counterparts in the UK and Bermuda with specific regard to the inwards reinsurance business of S1955
Provide input and support to the financial reporting team as required - quarterly closing process, group financial reporting, retro reporting, regulatory reporting, etc.
Analyse results and work closely with FP&A to ensure accurate quarterly internal reporting to Executive Management
Provide support to internal / external auditors, directly or at the request of colleagues, as required
Work with the Outwards Reinsurance Ceded Team of the Syndicate and Bermuda
Coordinate the Quarterly Close Calendar and related meetings/deliverables
Attend and participate in Quarterly Review meetings
Participate in key finance systems initiatives and implementations
Oversight of Arch Corporate member reporting
Oversight of Managing Agent reporting
Ad hoc project work as required
Skills/Competencies
Proficiency in US GAAP / UK GAAP for insurance and reinsurance
Strong ability to deliver results under deadlines and competing objectives
Strong analytical skills
Strong communication skills in written and verbal formats; ability to address broad range of audiences including senior management and technical experts
Proven ability to work with and handle personal and confidential information with absolute discretion
Strong inter-personal skills and willingness/ability to function as member of a multi-disciplined, international team
Strong intellectual curiosity
Proficient with Microsoft Office products and advanced Excel skills
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
ACCA, ACA, CIMA – 5 years post qualified experience
Experience
Operations experience in a large commercial (re)insurer
Lloyd’s experience in financial reporting / syndicate accounting
Knowledge of Reinsurance systems a distinct advantage
