Job Purpose:

Join our dynamic and forward-thinking team as an AI Engineer Associate Director, where you will lead AI engineers and scientists in transforming our organization into a high-performing, innovation-driven center of excellence. Your focus will be on creating self-healing supply chains powered by digital twins and intelligent autonomous systems. You will provide technical leadership, guiding the development and implementation of cutting-edge AI strategies from ideation to production, ultimately impacting patient care. Starting with enhancing manufacturing and engineering operations, you will extend these innovations to quality and supply chain, driving efficiencies and helping us achieve our vision of reaching 2.5 billion patients annually.

In this hands-on role, you will define and execute the AI modeling strategy for digital twins, including process and asset twins for manufacturing, engineering, and quality. These domains rely heavily on sensor-based data, so expertise in time series and tabular data is essential. Experience with other data types, such as text, is a plus. By applying a rigorous scientific approach and staying ahead of AI advancements, you will guide decisions on new capabilities—whether to test, build, or buy—to maximize impact. You will contribute to our Smart Manufacturing program by leading methodological discussions and driving innovation through the latest AI and generative AI technologies (e.g., AI agents, synthetic data generation).

A key part of your role will involve leading multiple teams to build digital twin products to the highest standards. You will inspire and mentor a team of internal staff and consultants, fostering a high-performance, cross-functional environment in collaboration with key stakeholders. You will be hands-on in delivering critical components while empowering junior staff to grow their skills to implement all the details. As a technical leader, you will ensure fast delivery of minimum viable products using Agile methodologies, while understanding the business needs in manufacturing, engineering, and quality to shape technical roadmaps that anticipate future demands.

Additionally, you will collaborate with architecture, MLOps, LLMOps, and AI governance teams to ensure AI digital twins meet compliance standards. You will work closely with R&D and business teams to facilitate the transfer of cutting-edge digital technologies and products to commercial activities. You will also work on strengthening efficiencies for life cycle products and assets within Global Supply Chain.

Key Responsibilities:

  • AI Digital Twin Technical Leadership: Serve as the go-to expert for digital twin techniques and methodologies, setting the standards for present and future AI initiatives.
  • Team Leadership: Build and lead high-performing, cross-functional teams by mentoring, developing, and motivating team members while removing blockers and fostering collaboration.
  • Network Building: Build strong relationships with internal experts and stakeholders to align on best practices and promote team successes.
  • Innovation Roadmap: Define and execute the AI innovation plan and manage its successful delivery.
  • AI Experiments: Use a fast-fail approach to quickly implement and identify impactful AI opportunities.
  • Product Development: Lead & implement the creation of scalable product and platform capabilities that enhance patient outcomes and drive competitive advantage.
  • Compliance and Standards: Ensure adherence to MLOps, AI governance, and industry compliance standards in collaboration with relevant teams.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field; PhD preferred.
  • Proven experience in AI-driven technical leadership roles, particularly within pharmaceuticals, Oil & Gas, engineering companies, or similar industries. Experience in a Global Center of Competence is highly valued but open to other relevant sectors.
  • Total 15+ years of experience out of which 3+ years of experience in a technical leadership role, with proficiency in Agile methodologies.
  • Strong Python software development and good MLOPs skills within shipped products.
  • Strong technical skills in time-series modeling, process control strategies, tabular data, synthetic data generation (in silico), standard predictive methods, mechanistic modeling, etc.
  • Tech stack: AzureML, Azure Cloud, DataBricks
  • Understanding and ability to design architecture for AI solutions is a plus.
  • Demonstrated scientific excellence through publications and a track record of shipping AI products into production.

This position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on our journey to enhance patient care and operational excellence through AI innovation. We encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds and experiences who are excited about pushing the boundaries of AI in healthcare and beyond.
