The Red Hat Identity Management Engineering team is seeking an Associate Software Engineer with Python experience to join our ranks. In this role, you would work with a team of developers focusing on the Identity Management solution in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), which delivers a centrally managed authentication and identity management infrastructure to communities and companies looking for reliable security solutions.


You'll use your skills, mainly in Python (and occasionally in C) to contribute to the upcoming releases of the upstream FreeIPA project (see the FreeIPA in action at ipa.demo1.freeipa.org). As a Software Engineer, you will start learning FreeIPA by addressing issues, backporting fixes from upstream projects  and implementing smaller features and pave your way up to big feature requests or integration engagements with other Red Hat products or community projects.


What you will do

  • Identify system deficiencies, conduct technical research and analysis, and recommend solutions or fixes
  • Contribute tests for the upstream continuous integration suite to help maintain high stability of the upstream project
  • Backport fixes and features to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Fedora
  • Work on implementing enhancements or addressing issues in the FreeIPA open source project, which is the basic building block of Red Hat Identity Management offering
  • Communicate with FreeIPA developer and user community, across multiple time zones


What you will bring

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field experience
  • 1+ years of professional (or academic) Python development experience
  • Basic experience with C
  • Desire to learn and solve challenging problems
  • Solid service troubleshooting and administration skills on a Linux platform
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills in English​


The following are considered a plus:

  • Understanding of the Linux identity or authentication capabilities is a plus
  • Understanding or working experience of Identity Management systems or related technologies (Kerberos, LDAP, PKI, Active Directory, 2FA) is a plus
  •  Knowledge of Linux operating system and its development tools; any Linux distribution is acceptable
