Lead Software Engineer for Prospr

The Platforms and Engineering group is a team of skilled professionals who dedicate their careers to supporting and enhancing Sun Life’s technology-based solutions. We are currently seeking a Lead Software Engineer to develop and support technical solutions for the Prospr business. The successful candidate will be an experienced IT professional who has a passion for solving business problems and creating world-class technical solutions, shows initiative, and is accountable for results.  You should be technically adaptable as you will be collaborating with various technical teams at Sun Life and external vendors.

What will you do?

  • Design high level solutions for multiple squads across different technologies.
  • Work with the architect at the hub level to design high quality application solutions and collaborate with Agile build teams to deliver the solutions. 
  • Work with software vendors, integrating their solutions into our applications.
  • Participate in Agile processes like planning, reviews, retrospectives.
  • Provide delivery teams with technical direction and clarity to understand the business needs in technical terms.
  • Help define timelines, estimates, and delivery roadmaps.
  • Encourage innovative design thinking with stakeholders to drive out solution options, making sure that all options are considered, and that business is aware of pros/cons/risks/shortcomings of any solutions.
  • Ensuring the teams are following design best practices (e.g security guidelines, leveraging DevOps, minimizing tech debt)

Knowledge and Skill requirements:

  • 10+ years of software development experience.
  • Strong leadership and guidance skills to oversee quality.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
  • Experience leading multiple teams concurrently.
  • Excellent collaboration skills and proven ability to adapt to challenges, coaching and mentoring.
  • Ability to work in a multi-site environment and work in a matrix environment, onshore/offshore IT model.
  • Ability to engage with a team of diverse skill sets and interface with peripheral technical teams.
  • Experience in creating technical documentation such as data mappings to reflect lineage and data flows.  

Preferred Experience:

  • Creation of High level and Detailed level designs in various technologies such as : Pega, Salesforce, APIs, Adobe Campaign
  • Experience working with vendor and integration vendor solutions
  • Understanding of Agile methodology (i.e., Kanban, Scrum, SAFe, Digital Enterprise)
  • Asset: Knowledge of Underwriting back-end systems
  • Asset: Java

Special Requirements:

  • Periodic weekend/after-hours work may be required to support project implementations and system upgrades

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
