The Sr. BI & Analytics Engineer plays a critical role in designing and scaling our Microsoft Fabric analytics ecosystem, with a focus on enterprise semantic modeling, governed self-service BI, and AI-enabled analytics experiences. This role sits at the intersection of business context, trusted metrics, and modern analytics tooling—leveraging Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and Copilot-driven capabilities to accelerate insight generation and improve decision-making across Wholesale, Retail, and E‑commerce.

This position serves as a key internal owner of business logic and semantic models while helping the organization responsibly adopt AI and Generative AI capabilities within analytics workflows

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Semantic Modeling & Metrics

  • Design and maintain enterprise Power BI / Fabric semantic models, embedding consistent business logic across domains.
  • Own KPI definitions, calculations, and metric governance, ensuring a single source of truth.
  • Optimize star schemas and composite models for performance, reusability, consumer-friendly analytics and AI-powered summarization and insight generation.

Data Visualization & Self-Service Analytics

  • Build executive- and operator-level Power BI dashboards that balance usability, performance, and governance.
  • Enable self-service analytics through certified datasets, shared metrics, and best-practice workspace structure.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to translate complex questions into actionable insights and visuals.

AI-Enabled Analytics & Copilot Integration

  • Partner with analytics leadership to integrate AI and Copilot capabilities into analytics workflows, including ; Natural language exploration of semantic models, metric explanations and narrative summaries and AI-assisted dashboard authoring and interpretation
  • Ensure semantic models are AI-ready (clean metadata, measure descriptions, business-aligned naming).
  • Collaborate on early use cases for Copilot in Power BI and Fabric that enhance adoption while maintaining governance.
  • Help define guardrails for responsible use of Gen AI in analytics, including explainability and metric trust.

ETL & Data Product Development

  • Contribute to ETL / ELT pipelines within Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Dataflows Gen2) in collaboration with central engineering.
  • Apply medallion architecture principles to ensure reliable, well-modeled analytics-ready data.
  • Support data quality checks and model validation tied to business-critical reporting.

Platform Governance & Standards

  • Establish and enforce semantic, visualization, and workspace standards (naming, measures, certification).
  • Collaborate on Fabric security, workspace segmentation, and dataset endorsement strategy.
  • Document patterns and reusable assets to accelerate future data product delivery.

Collaboration & Enablement

  • Serve as a bridge between consulting partners and internal teams, accelerating knowledge transfer.
  • Mentor junior BI developers and analytics users on modeling, DAX, and best practices.
  • Partner with Data Engineering, FP&A, Merchandising, and Marketing on analytics initiatives.

DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 8–12+ years in Analytics / BI roles, including enterprise semantic modeling ownership.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric and Power BI (datasets, DAX, governance).
  • Strong understanding of dimensional modeling, KPI standardization, and self-service BI.
  • Experience supporting executive-level reporting across multiple business functions.
  • Ability to operate independently while collaborating in a modern data product model.
  • Experience transitioning organizations from consulting-led to internal ownership models.
  • Familiarity with Azure-native data tooling (ADF, SQL, Lakehouse concepts)
