As part of a highly collaborative team the Senior Manager, Strategic Projects is responsible for leading specific initiatives and problem solving that directly support the Hard Discount Division’s strategic objectives. This dynamic role works directly with many areas and levels of the Hard Discount Division to deliver great results. The role entails the opportunity to work flexibly across multiple projects and teams within the Hard Discount Division.

 

Accountabilities:

 

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Lead key divisional initiatives and projects through all stages of a typical project life cycle. These projects may occur across the functional range within the Discount Division including merchandising, pricing & promo, operations, and capital.  
  • Drive and influence work stream leads / project managers on program activities to ensure deliverables are achieved on time, within budget and achieve the strategic goals of the program.
  • Work with project team to identify and assess project risks and mitigation strategies, take a disciplined approach to managing project issues and risks.
  • Manage program budgets and report on program results.
  • Design and develop program/project presentations to key executive stakeholders throughout the business.

 

STRATEGIC INITIATIVES

  • Responsible for providing with analytic and strategic support (e.g. leakage analysis by customer segment, category and competitor).
  • Maintain and communicate format planning calendar to consolidate and prioritize all format activities.

 

DECISION SUPPORT/ANALYTICS

  • Collaborate within Divisional teams to assist in the development of long-term strategic plans to improve market position, competitive position, sales, and profit.
  • Lead the collection and analysis of market, competitive and industry insight to support the development of these plans.
  • Design, structure and ensure completion of analytics to allow for effective business decision making and support adoption of new business strategies.
  • Identify internal experts required and develop strategic approaches to resolve business issues.

 

PLANNING

  • Aligning divisional plans to LCL annual business objectives. Facilitating planning meetings to collaborate with business leads to develop business and financial objectives.  Coordinating the development, analysis, and implementation of business plans and strategic initiatives/projects
  • Create supporting materials to assist planning which may include competitive trends, market share, capital initiatives etc.
  • Collaborate to build a multiyear agenda for business transformation!
  • Other duties assigned as required.

 

Role Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years previous work experience; retail and/or merchandising experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, challenging and constantly changing work environment and deal with ambiguity.
  • University degree or Post-secondary education.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage, timelines and budgets to ensure delivery of project objectives.
  • Previous experience in developing detailed project plans using project management tools and methodologies.
  • Strong planning and execution skills.
  • Superior analytical, problem solving and judgment skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate ideas and actions to those at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience with process redesign, process mapping and documentation
  • Strong technical skills (Word, Excel, Power point, Outlook).
  • Bilingual, knowledge of English and French language is strongly preferred.
