Job Description:
Clearlake Shipping, a subsidiary of Gunvor Group, is one of the largest charterers of tanker vessels in the world and an operator of tankers and VLGC (Very Large Gas Carrier) vessels and cargoes. With a highly motivated and experienced team of freight traders and operators throughout the world, Clearlake Shipping effectively covers any chartering needs that the Group or market may have at any given time. Since 2003, Clearlake Shipping has operated around a high quality fleet of tankers, LPG carriers and vessels both on a spot and a time-charter basis to accommodate Gunvor’s growing needs for ocean transportation across all major ocean routes, in addition to the needs of third-party business. Clearlake Shipping’s activities include chartering an average of 1,500 vessels annually, crude oil, products, LPG, LNG, freight hedging (FFA), operations, claims handling and terminal safety consultations.
Overview of Role
The position reports directly to Global Head of Operations of Clearlake Shipping, and is located in our Dubai office. He/ she will work closely with the Chartering department and Cargo Operations to provide day-to-day operational support for the shipping operation of Dirty Petroleum Products and Clean Petroleum Products for our time-chartered fleet.
Main Responsibilities
Manage pre-fixture and post-fixture of commercial operations on MR, LR1, LR2, Aframax and VLCC:
Handle all pre-fixture related matters to clear nominated vessels for respective voyage.
Voyage optimization & Performance Analysis:
Monitor vessel’s daily movement and monitor weather routing.
Monitor vessel’s speed and consumption and prepare claims against owner, if applicable.
Optimize tank-cleaning time to prepare tanks to load next potential cargo.
Maximum Utilization of cargo stowage plan with master and charterers.
Appointing port Agent, minimize port cost and ensure timely funding.
Receive Loi from charterer and prepare it in timely manner to head owners.
Non-commercial operations: Bunker planning/procurement and deslopping performed with best efficiency in time and cost.
Ensure the vessel’s quick turnaround in port by liaising closely with Agent.
Timely appointment of armed guards for transiting HRA.
Liaise and verify with owners regarding oil major approval and ensure vessels have valid sire for trading.
Liaising with internal stakeholders such as traders, trading operators, legal team etc.
Profit and loss management by daily updating of the system to provide accurate P&L updates.
Ensure that the master is in strict compliance with our standing standard operating procedures.
Able to handle disputes/shortages etc. independently.
Establish relationship and negotiating contracts with owners, third party suppliers etc with discussion with superior.
Post-fixtures:
Ensure that all Operational Information is entered into Operational Systems (IMOS) in timely fashion and that adequate records are kept in G Docs to meet the company’s legal and fiscal obligations
Prepare and ensure that freight received in timely manner.
Ensure that necessary documents for interim port calculations and other claims (speed up / slow steam / waiting time/heating costs / purging costs / charterer’s expenses etc.) are given to claims department to process and chase charterer.
Any other ad-hoc tasks as assigned by supervisor
Candidate’s Profile
The individual should have the following experience:
Diploma in Maritime or relevant qualification, with minimum 3 to 5 years of work experience in Shipping Operations in trading house or ship owner.
Self-motivated, a team player and able to work with minimum supervision
Sound commercial awareness
Good oral and written communications skills
Competencies and results driven
Experienced with dispute resolution and handling incidents.
