DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARY: The Rehabilitation Department provides therapy and nursing services to patients, families and patient’s caregivers including: Rehabilitation Nursing Care, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Language Pathology. Our department operates as a system department and provides services to Acute Care, Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility and Outpatient settings across four campuses. Our Rehabilitation departments offer a variety of specialty services across the various services delivery areas.

POSITION OVERVIEW Reports to the Manager of Bend Rehabilitation Services, and is responsible for the daily operation of the department including:  scheduling, performance management and evaluation, and resource allocation.  Serves as support function to acute hospital patient units at St Charles Health System – Bend. Contributes to system wide projects and continuous process improvement related to acute care services.

This position directly manages caregivers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

Oversee daily operations – managing budget, allocation of resources, assisting with staffing and scheduling.

Acts as the department resource person.  Serves as a professional leader and mentor for the acute therapists.

Acts as a resource person to caregivers and customers.

Provides technical knowledge and supervision caregivers.

Assures the hiring of competent staff, provides for proper orientation, relevant continuing education, and competency validation of staff.

Sets expectation of performance of staff assigned to the department.  Manages to the performance standards using appropriate methods and interventions.

Provides for the development of caregivers through effective advising, coaching, facilitating, and mentoring.

Completes performance evaluations of supervised caregivers.

Provides leadership in the Performance Excellence Process.  Manages and continuously improves processes.

Ensures consistent clinical and technical excellence and compliance, superior customer service, and the integration of healing health care principles.

Accountable for the daily operational success of acute therapy.

Assists with implementation of goals and objectives in rehab business unit.  Assists to develop programs and services sensitive to the needs of our customers.

Supports the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects.

EDUCATION                  

Required:    Graduate from an approved professional school. 

Preferred:    Bachelor’s Degree in area related to rehabilitation preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION

Required:  Must have current Oregon Licensure in professional area of training (Registered Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, or Speech-Language Pathologist)

Preferred:  Is a member of national professional organization.

EXPERIENCE

Required:  Three years professional clinical experience with minimum of two years of experience in Rehab.  Previous supervisory experience (leadership roles in clinical setting may substitute for supervisory experience) and process improvement experience required.

Preferred: Prefer management or leadership experience of one year or more                              

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Continually (75% or more): Standing and walking, keyboard operation, use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.

Frequently (50%): Sitting, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 1-25 pounds.

Occasionally (25%): Bending, stooping/kneeling/crouching, reaching overhead, grasping/squeezing, ability to hear whispered speech level.

Rarely (10%): Climbing stairs.

Never (0%):  Climbing ladder/step-stool, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 25-50 pounds, operation of a motor vehicle.

Exposure to Elemental Factors
