Summary:

Imagine being the Director, Data Insights at Clio, the legal software company that is on a mission to revolutionize the legal experience for everyone. 

Reporting to Senior Director, Head of Data & Analytics, you will be responsible to build a scalable and reusable data foundation that can handle the increasing volume, variety, and velocity of data, supporting Clio's growth ambitions. 

You will establish standard reusable data models as a core asset for Clio, enabling business and product teams access up-to-date and accurate customer information, leading to more personalized, more proactive, and more efficient customer interactions. You will ensure data is interpreted and reported consistently across different systems, establish policies and processes for data governance, and work with data engineering, legal, among other teams to ensure data privacy, security, and compliance with regulations.

Your mission is to build the centre of excellence for all things data, and to partner with the leaders across Clio to make reliable, timely, and effective data-driven decisions!

What you’ll work on: 

  • Define and implement Clio’s unified data strategy and Clio’s vision for self-serve analytics, in collaboration with engineering, systems, and business leaders

  • Establish an impact-driven prioritization framework, and a comprehensive data modeling and data infrastructure roadmap, with clear business cases for all data initiatives

  • Establish Clio as a thought leader in data modeling, reusable data and analytics solutions, actively implementing and contributing to industry best practices

  • Quantify Clio’s progress towards self-serve analytics, and establish routine reporting to senior leadership across product and business teams

  • Establish data governance best practices across Clio, with clear business ownership, data quality assessment, reporting and responsibilities

  • Hire, scale and grow Clio’s data modeling and business intelligence team, with clear technical and business development roadmap

  • Foster a strong collaboration between data modeling, business intelligence, data engineering, business reporting, operations analytics, and product teams

  • Be an active participant and contributor on the Business Operations Leadership Team and Extended Leadership Team (comprised of senior leaders Director+)

  • Serve as a strategic voice and partner for senior leaders and executives, including educating the business on best practices and path to implement repeatable analytics and reporting

About you:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics or a related field.

  • Experience building and scaling a data function from the ground up in a high-growth environment

  • Experience managing data, analytics, and engineering teams with 10+ direct and indirect reports

  • Advanced knowledge of data models, infrastructure and data architecture

  • Hands-on experience in building and maintaining data pipelines and data solutions, using technologies such as dbt and Kedro for cloud-based platforms

  • Extensive experience building strategic models/datasets on cloud-based data warehouses and platforms such as Redshift and Databricks  to feed reporting and analytics 

  • Experience with data sync tools like Segment and other tools which connect to go-to-market (GTM) systems and Salesforce and data warehouse

  • Experience working cross functionally with Sales/Marketing and leading different GTM initiatives, including understanding data flows between different systems, including Salesforce, Gong, and marketing automation platforms like Marketo.

  • Experience with putting data and analytics solutions in production and maintaining them

  • Experience reporting and presenting to senior business stakeholders

  • Comfort with ambiguity, evolving priorities, and an ability to lead a team and operate autonomously

  • Strong storytelling skills with the ability to coach and teach best practices, and to explain technical analyses to non-technical audiences

Bonus points for:

  • Experience leading software development or engineering teams

  • Experience in SaaS or legal industry

  • Experience with unstructured data modeling and graph data structures

  • High level of business acumen obtained through professional experience or certification MBA, CFA, PMM

  • Graduate degree in Data Engineering or similar

The full salary range* for this role is $154,000 to $192,500 to $231,000 CAD.Please note there are a separate set of salary bands for other regions based on local currency.

In addition, this role is eligible for variable pay that is based on company performance, with actual payout amounts calculated and paid on a quarterly basis.

*We aim to hire all candidates between the minimum and the midpoint of the full salary range. We reserve the midpoint to the maximum of the salary band for internal employees who demonstrate sustained high performance and impact at Clio. The final offer amount for this role will be dependent on individual experience and skillset of the candidate. Please note there are a separate set of salary bands for other regions based on local currency.
