Manager, Corporate Health, Safety & Security, Calgary, AB

MEG Energy is seeking an experienced Manager, Corporate Health, Safety, and Security to join our team. Reporting to the Director, Health, Safety & Environment this role is responsible for The Corporate Health, Safety, and Security Manager will be responsible for the development, implementation, and management of health, safety, and security programs across the organization. This role involves ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards while promoting a culture of accountability and responsibility resulting in operational excellence. The manager will work collaboratively with various departments to identify risks, implement best practices, and create a safe working environment for all employees. The Manager, Corporate Health, Safety, and Security's role has 2 direct reports responsible for reporting, analytics and managing the safety software systems.

Your day-to-day will include:

1. Program Development and Implementation:

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive health, safety, and security policies and procedures in alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Conduct regular reviews and updates of safety programs to ensure ongoing compliance and effectiveness.

2. Risk Assessment and Management:

  • Perform risk assessments and safety audits to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with management to develop strategies for risk mitigation and emergency preparedness.

3. Training and Awareness:

  • Provide health and safety subject matter expertise on training programs for employees on health and safety practices, emergency procedures, and security protocols.

4. Incident Management:

  • Facilitate the investigation process of workplace incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and implement preventive measures as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents and ensure timely reporting.

5. Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:

  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local health and safety regulations, including Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation in Alberta and Canada.
  • Stay current with changes in regulations and industry standards, providing guidance to management and employees as needed.

6. Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate health, safety, and security practices into all aspects of the organization.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for health, safety, and security-related inquiries and concerns.

7. Budget Management:

  • Develop and manage the health, safety, and security budget, ensuring the efficient allocation of resources.
  • Identify opportunities for cost-effective safety solutions and improvements.

What you will bring to MEG:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Security Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in health, safety, and security management, preferably with both site based and corporate experience.
  • Certification in health and safety (e.g., CRSP, CSP) is required and/or security management (e.g., CPP, PSP) is highly desirable.
  • Minimum 5 years experience leading a  team of professionals.
  • Strong knowledge of provincial and Canadian health and safety legislation, regulations, and best practices.
  • Proven ability to conduct risk assessments and develop effective safety programs.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software. Excel, tableau, Intelex, ISN experience is beneficial.
