Job Description

TEL is the leading developer of semiconductor processing equipment. As part of Timbre division of TEL, you would be tasked with developing next generation of optical sensing solutions for semiconductor manufacturing processes.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in an Engineering or related field with 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Thorough understanding of optics theory, methods and approaches to optical sensing, general domain knowledge supported by recent advanced degree in optical physics
  • Industrial experience in optical system design and development process including optical design, optomechanical design, generating system requirements, assembly, alignment, integration, debugging and testing optical systems against requirements
  • Experience in designing and developing optical metrology and / or inspection systems (1-5 years)
  • Working knowledge of Zemax, Creo Parametric, Matlab, Labview tools
  • Individual contributor with the capability to lead multi-disciplinary team of optical, mechanical, electrical, algo, and software engineers. Ability to clearly communicate with peers and upper management, prepare and report technical results.

Responsibilities and typical tasks:

  • Apply general physics and optics concepts to come up with technical solutions to challenging market requirements
  • Perform optical design tasks in Zemax and similar optical modeling SW tools
  • Perform design and development tasks per project requirements, including setting up and conducting lab experiments from concept through feasibility studies to conclusive results
  • Design and develop individual components, subsystems, prototypes, alpha- and beta-versions of company products, and support NPI and manufacturing team to transition products to manufacturing phase per PLC and DfX process
  • Collect and analyze experimental data, present results to peers and upper management
  • Proactively engage in identifying and addressing issues and challenges in the existing and future products
  • Participate in product design reviews per PLC process

Physical Demands and Work Conditions The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This job operates in an office and lab settings. This role routinely uses standard office and lab equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required, which would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office and lab products and supplies, up to 35 pounds. This position also may require 4 to 6 hours per day at a computer screen/keyboard. The position may further require operating in the lab and cleanroom environments, which would require wearing special protective clothing to control contamination, and required safety equipment.
