Infrastructure Engineer

This is primarily a remote, full-time, permanent position with a salary of up to £50,000, depending on experience.

Due to internal promotion, we are seeking to recruit an experienced and friendly Infrastructure Engineer to join our already dedicated team.

About the role:

As an Infrastructure Engineer your responsibilities will include maintaining all aspects of the infrastructure, including VMWare, SANs, virtual servers, RDS, Active Directory, and Exchange. The primary focus of this role is to monitor, maintain and continually improve the reliability and usability of the services provided to the users relating to the physical and virtual infrastructure.

This role will focus heavily on Active Directory, and we are particularly interested in candidates with current experience working with Active Directory and group policy management.

All our roles require candidates to have the entitlement to work within the UK, Mears does not currently offer visa sponsorship.

Role Criteria:

The main objectives of this role are to support the server infrastructure and to ensure continuous improvements to the environment, while maintaining a high level of system availability for the business. You will achieve this by:

  • Provide high quality IT support to customers.
  • Qualify, investigate, and resolve IT issues and requests in line with agreed Service Levels.
  • Ensure that any changes made to systems are performed in line with agreed Change Management processes.
  • Be an escalation point for anything related to Server/SAN infrastructure.
  • Identify trends or areas for improvement and implement a solution in line with best practice ensuring a high level of security is provided.
  • Maintaining/Improving security posture by ensuring patches and vulnerabilities are resolved.
  • Adopt a professional manner when communicating with customers to build and maintain a positive view of Mears Group.
  • Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to foster a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends and propose recommendations for their implementation to drive innovation and efficiency.
  • A full driving licence valid in the UK and access to a vehicle is required as there will be an occasional need to travel to our other offices.
  • Participation in Out-Of-Hours on-call rota.

The successful candidate must have proven experience in a similar role.

We are seeking someone who can work on their own initiative and as part of a team, has a good understanding of how to implement and maintain all aspects of VMWare and Windows Server Operating Systems.

It would be advantageous to have knowledge of Cisco hardware, SANs and Azure.

The infrastructure team demands a 'can-do’ attitude to problem solving and an inquisitive mind to question everything with the primary focus on continuous improvement. The ability to take ownership and manage a problem to its successful resolution will be key. Will need to use your initiative and be flexible in your approach to professionally and efficiently deliver the results required.  Will be friendly, approachable, and able to communicate clearly to others.
