The Registered Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting the pharmacists in properly dispensing and checking medications to patients and performs technical duties.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exemplary customer service that meets the standards of McKesson Canada
  • Sign technical aspects of prescriptions as per the approved guidelines set forth by the Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists
  • Receive verbal prescriptions as per the approved guidelines set forth by the Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists
  • Take on additional duties and responsibilities as per the approved guidelines set by the Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists
  • Billing prescriptions through pharmacy software ensuring all required documentation is adequate and appropriate including (but not limited to) accounts receivables, dosage and dosing intervals, third party billing restrictions, scheduled appointment dates, clinic locations, copayment management, coordination of benefits, assignment of benefits
  • Understanding, recognizing, resolving third party billing issues
  • Managing site calendars, appointment changes, dispensing and shipping schedules
  • Adherence to all relevant guidelines including the established Standard Operating Procedures and all applicable regulatory requirements
  • Accurately preparing medications to ensure arrival to the appropriate destination on time
  • Inventory management and reconciliation
  • Patient follow-up calls for outstanding accounts (ensuring that all medical questions are referred to a pharmacist)
  • Monitoring of site temperatures when available and reporting any variances directly to the operations manager
  • Effectively communicate with both external and internal contacts
  • Developing and maintaining professional relationships with health care professionals, reimbursement coordinators, infusion coordinators, provincial ministries of health and private payers
  • Accurate data entry into various systems
  • Validated aseptic training an asset
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervising pharmacist
  • Perform all technical duties involved in successful dispensing medications, document and take responsibility for all activities as set forth for the registered pharmacy technician

Minimum requirements:

  • Pharmacy Technician Registration
  • College Pharmacy Technician Diploma
  • Typically requires 3+ years of related experience

Competencies

  • Pharmaceutical industry in a retail pharmacy setting
  • Experience within the setting of retail pharmacy practice in the province of Nova Scotia including an understanding of biologics and specialty medications and third-party billing issues
  • This position requires a significant degree of self-starting and independence

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$37,100 - $61,900
