Summary:

We are seeking a Software Engineer to join our growing Engineering team. This role is ideal for someone passionate about solving complex problems, building innovative solutions, and embracing new technologies. As part of Clio’s AI team, you will make a tangible impact on transforming the legal experience for our customers by leveraging cutting-edge machine learning models.
 

At Clio, we’re on a mission to transform the legal experience for all. Our AI team focuses on creating advanced solutions using NLP and GenAI technologies with a goal to streamline and enhance workflows, allowing legal professionals to focus on what matters most—their clients.
 

This role is available to candidates across Canada (excluding Quebec). If you are local to one of our hubs (Burnaby, Calgary, or Toronto) you will be expected to be in office minimum once per week on one of our Anchor Days.


What You’ll Do:

  • Development of intuitive and robust front end for AI driven solutions 

  • Integrate with custom AI solutions API, optimizing for efficient architecture 

  • Collaborating cross-functionally: Work in an agile environment alongside ML engineers, MLOps specialists, and full-stack developers

  • Innovating and learning: Stay up-to-date with the latest AI/ML trends, challenge yourself, and refine your expertise

  • Contributing to the broader engineering community: Collaborate across teams, mentor others, and review code to maintain high standards
     

A Day In the Life Might Look like:

  • Working with a team of developers to solve complex problems and provide elegant solutions to Clio customers

  • Working in an agile environment with our team of full stack developers across a variety of projects

  • Using a wide range of technologies, learning new things, and challenging yourself

  • Participating in diverse projects and collaborating with multiple engineering teams across three countries

  • Reviewing and providing feedback on a peer's code, both from within your own team or across all of Clio

What You May Have:

  • Experience in software development, specifically with building mobile and web applications at scale using Python (Django) and React

  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features

  • The ability to learn new technologies quickly and work effectively in an ever-evolving environment that includes distributed teams and customers

  • Experience working with large-scale systems

  • A diverse base of knowledge that allows you to help your team solve complex technical problems

  • A history of successful projects (as well as a collection of lessons learned from failed projects)

  • Clear communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with fellow Clions and customers 


Bonus Points For:

  • LLM experience: Familiarity with open-source LLMs and APIs for commercial models like ChatGPT or Gemini

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and distributed systems

  • Understanding of legal tech and the unique challenges faced by legal professionals

The full salary range* for this role is $107,500 to $126,500 to $145,500 CAD..Please note there are a separate set of salary bands for other regions based on local currency.

*We aim to hire all candidates between the minimum and the midpoint of the full salary range. We reserve the midpoint to the maximum of the salary band for internal employees who demonstrate sustained high performance and impact at Clio. The final offer amount for this role will be dependent on individual experience and skillset of the candidate. Please note there are a separate set of salary bands for other regions based on local currency.
