As part of the Corporate Affairs team, PayPal’s Consumer Communications team is responsible for sharing the company’s compelling story and educating stakeholder groups including, consumers, media, influencers and analysts on how PayPal products can help them in their daily lives as they manage and move money personally or professionally.   

 

This role will lead the Consumer PR/Communications team and will be responsible for the global consumer communications strategy. This role will work closely with the EVP of Consumer Group, Marketing and Communications, as well as the senior leaders of the consumer product, commercial, and marketing teams. The Sr. Director of Consumer Comms will be charged with leading comms plans and activities that drive understanding of PayPal’s consumer business and products, build narratives for business stories, manage media and brand reputation, support integrated marketing campaigns, among other activities. This individual will join a dynamic team that operates in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will collaborate with other staff daily, including multiple team members across Communications, Product Leadership, Marketing Partners, and Consumer Business Unit. 

 

Responsibilities 

  •  Manage Consumer Communications team. 

  • Work closely with Consumer leadership team to drive the internal and external communications strategy aligned with business objectives and audiences.  

  • Lead the development and execution of strategic consumer comms/PR campaigns aligned to new product launches, GTM, integrated marketing campaigns, seasonal moments, etc. This could include content & messaging, third-party research, spokesperson preparation, images, demos, toolkits, recaps and measurement. 

  • Lead internal and external executive communications for Executive Vice President of Consumer Group, Marketing and Communications. 

  • Oversee internal and external executive communications for Chief Product Officer (CPO), Chief Design Officer, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), helping to build external profiles and thought leadership for respective areas across commerce, technology, and consumer.  

  • Provide strategic counsel to senior executives on internal and external communications strategies. 

  • Lead internal and external comms plans for leadership hires/departures, change management, and global reorganizations. Builds content and scripts for Global All Hands, Earnings script inputs for business unit, internal executive events, and external sales events. 

  • Strong media relations practitioner. Build and maintain relationships with key media and influencers, including journalists and influencers spanning consumer, business, personal finance, and technology verticals. Manage media hotline. 

  • Manage earned media strategy and opportunities for PayPal Consumer, as well as develop spokespeople.  

  • Manage brand reputation with media and customers across external environment. 

  • Work with Government Relations and Regulatory teams to manage PayPal communications strategy for external stakeholders. 

  • Provide employee communications guidance and strategy for select internal announcements, All Hands, etc. 

  • Attend strategic business meetings. 

  • Build and maintain relationships with key business partners across Communications, Product Leadership, Marketing Partners, and Consumer Business Unit, Corporate Affairs, and external agencies.  

 

Qualifications 

  • 15+ years public relations/communications experience – strong management skills desired. 2-4 years of agency experience a plus.  

  • Experience leading high-performing teams 

  • Strong organizational skills – can manage day-to-day tactics and drive projects to desired end-results within deadlines.  

  • Experience providing effective strategic communications counsel to senior leadership across the organization.  

  • Ability to build and measure communications programs that align with Venmo’s strategic business priorities. 

  • Ability to develop strategic comms plans and presentations for senior leadership audience.  

  • Background working with product, marketing, legal, and regulatory teams.   

  • Strong communications skills, including writing, verbal and editing.  

  • Relationships with consumer, business and technology media. 

  • A deep understanding of digital media best practices, platforms and measurementPrevious experience working with digital media measurement tools at, or for, an established global brand a plus.   

  • Attention to detail – even in fast-paced environments.  

  • A team player with a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with multiple stakeholders – this position will work with multiple departments and functions throughout Venmo and PayPal.  

  • Ability to think creatively and generate recommendations for tactical problem solving.  

  • Bachelor’s degree required 

  • Ability to work regularly on-site at PayPal’s New York City office.

The U.S. national annual pay range for this role is

$143400 to $285450
