Department Overview

Operational Risk Management (“ORM”) is accountable for the design and implementation of TDBG’s Operational Risk Management Framework, which sets out the Bank’s governance, policies, processes and practices for the identification, assessment, reporting, mitigation and control of operational risk.  ORM, as an independent team, works in partnership with the business units and corporate groups of TD Bank Group to further the understanding and management of operational risk across the enterprise.

Job Description

The Risk Manager will report to one of the Senior Managers within the Corporate Segment  ORM team.  This role is a second line of defense function responsible for providing operational risk management oversight and challenge to Corporate Function areas (e.g., Digital Strategy, Innovation, Financial Crimes, Payments, Fraud Protect Platform, etc.) while ensuring the TDBG ORM Framework and related activities are implemented and executed within the business. 

The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing multiple operational risk programs for a select number of corporate functions, following ORM methodology and best practices.  The position will also consult on initiatives, with the focus on identifying, challenging and escalating risk issues and assisting in creating and implementing solutions that ensure risks are understood and managed effectively.  Specific responsibilities include the following:

  • Make sure corporate functions identify, report and mitigate operational risk issues and be a subject matter expert in the operational risk framework and risks/processes/controls.
  • Apply sound judgement and carry out practices for overseeing and challenging the effective implementation of operational risk management activities.
  • Execute 2A requirements in support of the three lines of defense framework.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of function owned risks to adequately assess risk exposures and impacts.
  • Work with other risk peers and control functions (e.g. Compliance, AML, Legal, HR) to ensure holistic understanding of key risks.

Job Requirements

  • Experience in the Risk Management field or related control function areas.
  • Strong understanding of Operational Risk Management programs and practices including related policies, frameworks and standards.
  • Organizational awareness and demonstrated relationship building skills, with an ability to make things happen through positive influence.
  • Strong organization skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Demonstrate strong communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Ability to influence people, deal with conflicting points of view and obtain consensus on solutions.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to synthesize information into key messages.
  • Proven self-starter with the ability to work independently.

Education / Accreditation

  • Undergraduate degree or relevant industry or risk and compliance management experience and/or accreditation.
