Gibraltar Reinsurance Company Ltd. (“Gib Re”) was established in Bermuda as a wholly-owned subsidiary of PFI. Gib Re has primarily assumed both existing and new businesses from Japanese affiliate companies to gain the enterprise capital efficiency by allowing reserve levels to be managed closer to an economic basis, while balancing financial soundness and protecting policyholder interests.
Candidate must be based in Bermuda or willing to relocate to Bermuda.
Responsibilities:
• Lead portfolio strategy development and execution for Gibraltar Re and Lotus Re
• Oversee and support day-to-day investment operations of the entities in consultation with PFI’s CIO Department and affiliated asset management units.
• Work closely with PFI CIO resources provided on a contractual/consultative basis to inform decision-making
• Set the investment policy statements and strategic asset allocations for both entities, taking into account CIO processes, priorities, and guidance to ensure alignment with PFI’s portfolio risk tolerance and tactical objectives.
• Oversee asset-liability management, product hedging requirements, and related pricing considerations for new products reinsured to Bermuda; define marginal asset allocation.
• Support Gibraltar Re and Lotus Re board members in all investment-related topics, including investment strategy, ALM, reporting and performance.
• Leverage resources across Prudential in areas such as corporate banking, PGIM asset managers, tax, and elsewhere to support the implementation of the strategic asset allocation.
• Work closely with actuarial to ensure that the strategic asset allocation is aligned with the scenario-based approach with a focus on creating capital capacity and funding dividends.
• Analyze and implement new investment initiatives or transactions, leveraging resources across Prudential in areas such as corporate banking, PGIM asset managers, tax, and elsewhere to support these initiatives.
• Review performance of asset managers and evaluate new asset classes.
• Oversee and develop portfolio analytics and reporting capabilities.
• Establish an effective governance framework aligned with Prudential Operating Principles.
• Provide investment due diligence needs for all potential reinsurance transactions.
• Analyze impact of current and proposed changes to investment-related regulations and accounting standards for Bermuda.
• Participate as part of the CIO Community contributing in wider dialogue with peers to assess relative value ideas, tactical investment opportunities and other relevant portfolio management initiatives.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have 7-10 or more years of relevant asset liability management, portfolio management, and business specific experience managing large insurance investment portfolios and acting as a member of a team of investment professionals.
• Bachelor's Degree required.
• CFA designation and/or MBA/MS in Finance are highly desirable.
• Strong track record leading and managing teams with a proven ability to execute transformational projects.
• A strong investment background that includes a solid capital markets perspective, a strong working knowledge of different liability structures, and a well-formed macro-economic point of view.
• Knowledge of insurance liabilities, international insurance markets, and regulatory capital frameworks, especially in Bermuda, the US, and Japan
• Strong interpersonal skills, strong influence, clear communication skills, team orientation, and the desire and ability to work with business partners of different national, cultural, and language backgrounds.
• •Very strong analytic and quantitative skills, and a deep understanding of capital markets with an emphasis on fixed income, FX, and related derivatives markets.
