The Team:

This position is within the S&P Global Market Intelligence group (MI), leaders in delivering cutting-edge insights, data, and technology solutions across various sectors. Leveraging datasets from the acquisition of IHS Markit, Market Intelligence offers workflow solutions and products, including the financial risk and analytics portfolio where this role is situated.

Part of MI, The Financial Risk Analytics business (FRA) provides comprehensive solutions for risk management, including real-time insights on valuation adjustments (XVA), buy side risk management tools (such as VaR calculations and stress testing), counterparty credit risk management, and support for regulatory and market risk requirements. These cloud-based solutions are designed to help financial institutions on both the sell and buy side navigate complex risk landscapes efficiently and effectively.


Responsibilities and Impact:

The Head of Innovation for Financial Risk Analytics will be responsible for defining and executing the strategic direction of S&P Global’s market risk offerings. This senior role combines strategic vision, product leadership, and architectural oversight, ensuring alignment across teams to deliver a fully competitive market risk solution tailored for buy-side clients. With expertise in market risk product development and architecture, the head of Innovation will work closely with Product, Technology, and Go-to-Market teams to drive innovation and position S&P Global as an industry leader.

Strategic Vision and Product Roadmap:

  • Develop and execute a long-term roadmap for market risk solutions.
  • Ensure that product initiatives align with business objectives, driving timely delivery of high-impact features.
  • Work closely with Product, Financial Engineering, and Sales to incorporate market insights and ensure alignment with client demands.

Architectural Oversight:

  • Lead a high-level review of current system architecture to identify opportunities for scalability, performance, and innovation.
  • Collaborate with Technology to ensure that architectural improvements align with the product roadmap and support overall stability.

Thought Leadership and Market Engagement:

  • Thought leadership – market risk:
  • Act as a spokesperson and thought leader for market risk, representing the company at industry events, publishing insights, and leading client discussions.
  • Build strong relationships with industry stakeholders and clients, enhancing our market positioning through strategic partnerships.
  • Drive initiatives that differentiate our market risk solutions from competitors.

Cross-Functional Alignment and Strategic Integration -market risk:

  • Ensure collaboration across Product, Financial Engineering, and Go-to-Market teams, promoting a unified approach to delivering the market risk strategy.
  • Foster open communication between departments, aligning goals and enabling seamless execution.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement – Market Risk:

  • Champion innovation initiatives within market risk solutions, particularly in areas like AI and advanced analytics.
  • Explore integration of other S&P Global assets to create a differentiated product that meets evolving client needs.

Compensation/Benefits Information: (This section is only applicable to US candidates)

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $173.7k to $300k. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.

What We’re Looking For:

Markets Expertise

  • Ideally have worked as CTO, CPO or CPTO at a risk solution provider and is deeply knowledgeable in domain of Cloud Architecture, Data management, Product and technology design in the market risk domain.
  • Practitioner experience in Traded Markets within sell-side firms across all major asset classes from Trading and Risk Control / Management.
  • Demonstrable experience encompassing a comprehensive understanding of the latest Market Risk, Counterparty Credit Risk, Liquidity Risk, Regulatory Risk, and XVA.

Buyside Expertise

  • Practitioner experience in buy-side firms (Asset Managers, Hedge Funds, Pension Funds), specializing in Financial Instruments and Equity Long-Short Funds, with a preference for Risk.
  • Desirable portfolio management understanding.
  • Experience in consulting with global regulators and interpreting Regulatory Technical Standards and consultation proposals.

Functional Understanding

  • Seasoned product management/development experience, including an understanding of agile and SDLC, and proficiency in productivity tools such as Kanban, GitHub, Aha, etc.
  • Background working at a leading Risk product vendor would be advantageous.
  • Understanding of model validation, model specification and white paper reviews would be desirable.
  • Very good understanding of the latest AI, big data and cloud technology capabilities and trends.
  • Expert project/programme/change management experience.
  • Excels in people management, leading teams of Quants, Financial Engineers, Risk Product Specialists and Product Development.
  • Trusted advisor to Chief Risk Officers, Chief Information Officers, and Chief Operating Officers in both the sell-side and buy-side, preferably as a practitioner in a Risk consultancy or within Risk in the sell-side or buy-side.
  • Comfortable with thought leadership production and public speaking engagements as an accepted industry expert on Financial Risk and Analytics.
