Practice Overview: Transportation & Advanced Industrials

Oliver Wyman’s Transportation & Advanced Industrials Practice serves clients in a wide range of sectors around the globe, from companies that transport people and goods to those that build and service the required equipment and other industrial products. We deliver rapid breakthroughs with lasting impact across aerospace & defense, automotive, aviation, industrials goods, logistics, and rail. The broader transportation ecosystem is a critical part of the world economy, moving people, goods, and information around the globe.  We advise clients on the innovations and pressures that are changing the industry — from digitization and new mobility, to changes in regulations and trade flows. By understanding the nuances of each transport and industrial sector, we connect the dots across the ecosystem, bringing the best ideas from a range of industries to our clients’ businesses.

Role

Engagement Managers direct the day-to-day work of our consulting teams, working side-by-side with our clients.  The Engagement Manager position offers excellent career and growth opportunities for talented, highly motivated professionals with notable prior experience. Initial responsibilities may include:

  • Leading teams of consultants in complex analysis and strategic problem solving including: problem framing, sophisticated customer research, impactful analysis, results synthesis and insight generation

  • Planning and executing analysis for individual project modules: developing hypotheses, managing data collection, model creation and analyses, primary and secondary research and surfacing insights

  • Supporting Partners in project execution through excellent project management including: work planning, managing work flow, upward management and coaching

  • Managing client relationships and networks, presenting to senior audiences, and working day-to-day with senior and mid-level clients

  • Effectively communicating issues and solutions in formal and informal settings, through written and verbal communication

  • Building and institutionalizing the practice by writing white papers, developing training resources, attending conferences, participating in client development meetings, or writing proposals

  • Mentoring and developing junior members of the practice

Desired Skills and Experience

Just as every client project is different, so we recognize and value the diversity of backgrounds and skill sets for successful Engagement Manager candidates.  We are seeking high-caliber individuals who want to join our team.  Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • 5-7 years of experience in strategy consulting and/or industry experience

  • Track record of leading and managing teams, and delivering against tight deadlines in fast-paced, demanding environments

  • Strong background in strategic problem solving with demonstrable analytical skills

  • In-depth experience with customer research techniques (interviews, surveys, focus groups, etc.)

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; confidence in presenting to senior executives

  • Undergraduate or advanced degree from a top academic program

  • Willingness to travel
