We are seeking an experienced Senior Director, Pharma & Oncology Marketing who will play a pivotal role in developing company strategy for the pharmaceutical and cancer research market, coordinating with our product team to define pharma and cancer market-specific product specifications, building outbound marketing strategies and campaigns, prioritizing suggested activities, and driving commercial efforts aligned to the overall corporate goals. This is an incredible opportunity for someone who is passionate about becoming a brand subject matter expert in the eyes of internal and external partners and colleagues. We are looking for candidates with a solid background in pharmaceutical and oncology research and genomics markets who will bring fresh, relevant points of view to the work at hand. Experience with marketing in the life sciences space is a must. This role will report to the SVP – Product Management and Marketing and will be a San Diego based role.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the product management team to provide input on future product specifications relevant to all areas of the pharmaceutical and oncology market and generate needed marketing content for new product releases relevant to pharma and oncology
  • Develop strategies for marketing our products across the range of customer types working in the pharmaceutical industry and oncology
  • Identify key customer personas and positioning statements for sales enablement and outbound campaigns
  • Develop and execute global strategic and multichannel tactical plans for growing and nurturing the pharma and oncology sales funnel, in collaboration with the marketing team
  • Drive expected growth in the pharma and oncology market and track relevant business metrics
  • Attend key conferences and work with customers and KOLs to drive adoption of Element’s portfolio
  • Initiate and drive scientific collaborations with pharma and oncology KOLs to develop compelling evidence for use marketing campaigns
  • Present and influence at the Executive level, both internally and externally with customers, KOLs, etc
  • Cultivate customer, competitive and market insights to inform brand messaging strategies across our business and drive effective creative performance
  • Work collaboratively across functions in the organization, including (but not limited to) R&D, Finance, Market Development, Product Management, Regional Marketing, Sales, and Corporate Support Functions

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree (PhD or strong science background is preferred) along with 7+ years' experience in the brand, marketing and/or ad agency space (experience in Life Sciences/Biotech preferred)
  • Proficiency in the rapidly evolving pharma and oncology market landscape, including direction, diagnostic technologies, testing applications, and NGS utilization in these markets
  • Strategic writer with unconventional skills for the broadest range of life sciences messaging and copy
  • Prior experience marketing to scientists, reference laboratories, medical professionals, and patients
  • Experience working on companion diagnostic opportunities from either a medical or marketing perspective
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to connect detailed analysis to larger strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and deliver targeted results
  • Demonstrated effective collaboration in matrixed or highly cross-functional business settings
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering effective and strategic marketing plans for products on market
  • Experience with NGS markets, diagnostics and/or pharmaceutical and oncology product lines is strongly preferred

Travel: 

  • Domestic travel up to 25% and some international travel

Job Type:

  • Full-time/Exempt

Base Compensation Pay Range:

  • $180,000 - $255,000



In addition to base compensation noted above, you will be eligible for stock options, discretionary annual bonus, no cost health insurance plans, 401k with company match, and flexible paid time off.
