YOUR NEW ROLE

As a Performance Engineering Manager, you will lead the evolution of Performance Engineering from traditional load testing to a modern, automation-first engineering discipline. You will be responsible for building innovative frameworks, platforms, and tools that enable automated generation, execution, and analysis of performance tests throughout the software delivery lifecycle.

This role combines people's leadership, technical strategy, and engineering innovation. You will lead a team responsible for validating critical customer journeys, ensuring application scalability and resilience, and embedding performance testing into CI/CD pipelines. You will partner with Engineering, Platform, Architecture, SRE, and Product teams to deliver world-class customer experiences while driving continuous performance assurance at scale.

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing Performance Engineering team.
• Foster a culture of innovation, automation, continuous learning, and engineering excellence.
• Drive performance engineering standards, best practices, and governance across the organization.

Build Future-Ready Performance Engineering Solutions

• Define and execute the Performance Engineering strategy and roadmap.
• Design and build reusable frameworks and platforms that automatically generate performance test scripts from configurations, API specifications, customer journeys, and application metadata.
• Establish Performance Engineering as a self-service capability for development teams.
• Drive adoption of Performance Testing as Code and engineering-led quality practices.

CI/CD and Automation

• Integrate performance testing seamlessly into CI/CD pipelines.
• Implement automated performance validation, benchmarking, and regression detection for every release.
• Establish performance quality gates and actionable reporting within delivery pipelines.
• Reduce manual effort through intelligent automation and reusable engineering assets.

End-to-End Customer Journey Validation

• Lead performance testing for critical customer journeys across digital channels, APIs, and microservices.
• Design realistic workload models that simulate customer behavior and business transactions.
• Ensure applications meet performance, scalability, availability, and resilience requirements before production deployment.

Performance and Scalability Engineering

• Partner with application, platform, and SRE teams to identify and eliminate performance bottlenecks.
• Drive performance optimization across application, database, middleware, infrastructure, and cloud platforms.
• Support capacity planning, resilience testing, and scalability assessments.

Innovation and Emerging Technologies

• Explore and implement AI/GenAI solutions for automated script generation, workload modeling, root cause analysis, anomaly detection, and predictive performance engineering.
• Continuously evaluate new tools and technologies to improve performance engineering capabilities and developer productivity.

What You'll Bring

Experience & Leadership

• 16+ years of experience in Performance Engineering, Quality Engineering, SRE, DevOps, or related fields.
• 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams.
• Proven track record of delivering enterprise-scale performance engineering solutions and automation initiatives.

Technical Skills

• Strong software engineering background with Java and/or Python.
• Experience building custom frameworks, automation platforms, and engineering tools.
• Expert knowledge of performance testing tools such as JMeter, Gatling, k6, LoadRunner, BlazeMeter, or NeoLoad.
• Strong experience testing APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures.

Cloud & Platform Technologies

• Experience with AWS and Azure cloud platforms.
• Strong knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native architectures.
• Understanding of Platform Engineering, Infrastructure as Code, and modern software delivery practices.

DevOps & Observability

• Experience integrating performance testing into GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Harness, or GitLab CI/CD.
• Familiarity with Terraform and automation tooling.
• Experience using Grafana, Prometheus, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Splunk, Datadog, or Elastic/OpenSearch for performance monitoring and diagnostics.

Architecture & Problem Solving

• Strong understanding of distributed systems, scalability patterns, and reliability engineering.
• Ability to identify and resolve complex performance issues across application and infrastructure layers.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, and technical leadership skills.

Good to Have

• Experience with AI/GenAI-enabled testing and engineering platforms.
• Knowledge of Chaos Engineering, resilience testing, and capacity forecasting.
• Experience in Banking, Financial Services, or other regulated industries.
• Cloud, Kubernetes, Performance Engineering, or SRE certifications.

Qualification Requirements

• Tertiary qualification in technology related degree
