Position Summary
This position provides leadership and vision to create and foster a collaborative team who works with community members to support their programs and events within the Danforth University Center and across campus. The Associate Director is responsible for the overall management of events and operations of the Danforth University Center, premier and standard spaces, including reservation, facilities and event coordination as well as the University’s Youth Protections Program. The Associate Director provides supervision for a team of professional staff and student employees.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the process for management and operation of the Danforth University Center, Danforth Campus outdoor spaces, premier and standard spaces including the details and logistics for external clients, Memorials and departmental sponsored events.
- Responsible for the oversight and supervision of staff for the day-to-day reservations and event coordination for all events occurring in the Danforth University Center, Premier and Standard spaces including as the main contact for external clients to the University. Work with Department Coordinator to coordinate student employee training, development and assessment.
- Responsible for the oversight of long term facilities and maintenance for all spaces managed by Event Management & Operations. Administer direct supervision to the Manager of Campus Life Facilities in implementation of custodial, event sets, preventative maintenance and long term capital improvements.
- Responsible for oversight of implementation, processes, and monitoring of the University’s Youth Protection Policy. This involves director supervision of Manager of Events & Youth Protection Program in implementation of program components, including background checks, criminal monitoring, and training. Collaborate with departmental program managers to ensure program staff’s compliance and promptly address any non-compliance issues.
- Serve as liaison between/with campus partners responsible for major campus events. Such major campus events include, but are not limited to, Orientation, Commencement, Reunions, Admission Weekends, Parents Weekend, and Career Fairs.
- Build and maintain relationships with campus partners essential to the operation of the various facilities, such as Facilities, Campus Police, Dining Services, Information Systems & Technology, Parking & Transportation Services.
- Oversee the Event Management operating, revenue, expense and carry forward budgets.
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- At least five years’ experience within the hospitality management field, related to event management.
- Analytical reporting experience for event and financial data and customer service information.
- Experience working with Event Management Systems (EMS) or a similar reservation system.
- Experience working in a higher education and campus environment.
- Ability and experience in supervision of professional and/or student employees.
- Involvement in a related professional association such as Association of College Unions International or Association of Collegiate Conference Events Directors International (ACCEDI).
- Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Energy, creativity, detail, and organizational skills.
- Experience in working with a variety of event types and settings.
- Comprehension of current issues related to event planning, higher education, hospitality management.
- Ability to interact with a variety of clientele.
- Ability to quickly and calmly problem solve.
- Demonstrated skills in crisis management.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field is required.
- Hospitality Management degree or certificate is acceptable.
- Minimum of five years experience in related field is necessary.

Salary Range
$58,400.00 - $99,700.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
