Job Summary

The Director, Insurance Claims Property and Casualty will coordinate the handling and oversight of claims for all coverages.  The Director is responsible for resolution of claims to achieve the best possible financial conclusion, working closely with corporate leadership providing guidance and assistance in all claims-related matters.  Manage one or more direct reports.

Responsibilities

  • Manage general liability claims up to $400,000 and commercial property claims up to $1,000,000 globally
  • Manage and coordinate with legal high risk/high profile property and casualty claims for business units not insured under the MVW managed insurance programs.  This includes coverage review and analysis, claim preparation, tendering of the claim, management of the claim to resolution and depending on the claim, trial monitoring, settlement concurrence and trial strategy. 
  • Manage and negotiate business interruption claims in conjunction with the Director, Insurance and Risk Finance.  Responsible for the preparation, negotiation and settlement of business interruption claims which includes lost sales, financing, ancillary revenue, rental revenue, and related expenses incurred by the resort. 
  • Manage business interruption losses with forensic accounting firm. Review adequacy of reserve and help develop disposition strategies
  • Responsible for providing technical guidance in the investigation, reserving, and disposition of claims
  • Manage and resolve issues with subpoenas, request for production, answers to interrogatories
  • Keep current on coverage applicable negligence laws/joint negligence/innkeepers/timeshare and/or residential construction
  • Coordinate with Public Relations potentially high-profile cases and provide guidance as needed
  • Access Westlaw for case studies that support our defense
  • After conducting a thorough claims review, provide concurrence or rejections of denials
  • Monitor the work product of dedicated adjuster teams
  • Develop action plans to guide claims to the best possible resolution
  • Responsible for quarterly claims reviews
  • Provide guidance, recommendations or direction to dedicated units of adjusters
  • Work closely with the Safety & Security team to identify claims trends and coordinating investigations
  • Author a quarterly Lessons from Losses to be distributed to Operations and Leadership
  • Assist Insurance team with potentially high-risk business case reviews and provide support and guidance as needed
  • Coordinate with A&C building maintenance and wind HPR plans and strategies
  • Manage third-party adjusting companies
  • Coordinate with the Director, Insurance – Risk Finance deductible allocations, chargebacks, and provide feedback and guidance for actuarial analysis
  • Provide the law department/litigation group support and guidance as needed for insured claims
  • Special projects as needed

Candidate Profile

Education/Experience

  • Four-year degree from an accredited college; JD from an accredited Law School desirable
  • Minimum of 12 years claims adjusting/oversight experience and/or litigation experience.

Technical Skills

  • AIC, ARM, CPCU preferred and/or professional claims training from an insurance company of recognized responsibility
