The Search Query Science team is the biggest contributor to eBay’s search/query processing and drives a significant portion of revenue. Seek scientifically valid solutions that deliver real value to eBay customers.
End-to-end design, development and implementation of brand new algorithms and models for Natural Language Processing (NLP), Embedding Based Retrieval (EBR), semantic search, and machine learning to enhance query understanding and retrieval.
Understanding the ebay tech ecosystem and independently coming up with state-of-the-art ML solutions to query understanding problems that are practical and scalable.
Stay abreast of the latest advancements in NLP, machine learning, LLMs, and other search technologies, applying state-of-the-art approaches to continually improve the search experience.
Work with multiple teams to help promote standard scientific methodologies and processes in your field.
Present key technical and novel research work in public forums and conferences
Mentor and develop team members, encouraging an environment of innovation and continuous learning.
Communicate complex technical concepts and the value of applied research projects to all stake-holders within the company.
Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Information Retrieval, or a related field, with a focus on NLP or machine learning.
Minimum 5 years (with PhD or equivalent experiMasters or equivalent experiencer 7-9 years (with Masters) of industrial experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Information Retrieval, or a related field, with a focus on NLP or machine learning.
Industrial experience with one or more of the following: classification, regression, NLP, clustering, DeepLearning/Neural Networks, Reinforcement Learning, or related
Strong background in machine learning, NLP, and related technologies, with experience applying these techniques to large-scale, real world problems.
Proven track record of leading research projects in search, query understanding, NLP, or related areas, with proven impacts on product improvement.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a creative approach to tackling complex challenges.
Proficiency in Python and Java or Scala or C/C++, and experience with machine learning frameworks and tools with preferable experience in big data processing, e.g. Hadoop, SQL, Spark.
Excellent communication skills, with proficiency in English.
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California, Washington, or New York is expected in the range below.
$114,800 - $176,550Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
