Join our community.

The Core Banking Centre of Excellence is responsible for the maintenance, evolution, and technical transformation of Santander's Partenon core banking platform within the UK for Retail and Corporate banks. This strategic role primarily involves managing Banksphere Applications in the Core Banking Servicing area, handling maintenance, new developments, migrations, and integration of new capabilities.

Team Overview:

Banksphere is Santander's proprietary technology used extensively in intranet systems. The team provides production support for these applications and has recently been involved in a transformational program to migrate infrastructure from legacy systems to the cloud. This includes support for sales and servicing applications and other intranet applications across the bank.

The difference you’ll make:

As a Software Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality products and services to exceed customer expectations.
  • Oversee all projects and maintenance activities carried out by the squad to ensure accurate reporting, handle escalations, troubleshoot blockers, and coach and develop the team to become self-sufficient.
  • Manage all systems daily and provide the business with the necessary support.
  • Handle obsolescence at the software and platform levels.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor to the rest of the team.

What you’ll bring:

  • A good understanding of the Banksphere Technology Framework.
  • A background in IT delivery with a broad range of technologies and the ability to overcome project delivery obstacles.
  • Ability to collaborate with other managers, stakeholders, and team members to resolve production issues or any other blockers.
  • Familiarity with agile delivery and ceremonies (e.g., sprints, stand-ups, Kanban/Scrum, retrospectives, demos).
  • Understanding of microservice-oriented architecture running on PaaS infrastructure.
  • Comfort in collaborating across a broad range of teams and skill sets, confidently vocalizing needs, and concerns to drive solutions.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.

It would also be nice for you to have:

  • Experience working in an Agile environment focused on collaboration, adaptability, customer focus, and enabling teams to deliver high-quality products/services.
  • Capability to lead a production support and maintenance team spread across onshore in the UK, nearshore, and offshore locations.
  • Exposure to the DevOps ecosystem and automation tools following the Continuous Integration lifecycle.

What else you need to know:

We want our people to thrive at work and home, and we recognise that many people benefit from flexible arrangements. To enable us to deliver the best outcomes for our customers and to help each other develop we understand the importance of having the right balance of spending time together in an office while maintaining flexibility.

By working this way, we can continue to create moments that matter for everyone. To support this, we offer site-based contracts with a hybrid working pattern and we’re happy to discuss specific requirements throughout the recruitment process.

This role is based in Milton Keynes and our current expectation is at least 2 days in an office every week.
