Our challenge

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Tableau Developer to join our analytics team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in creating interactive dashboards, data modeling, and optimizing data sources. The candidate will collaborate with business stakeholders to deliver innovative data visualization solutions that enable data-driven decision-making.

Additional Information* 

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors.  In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Halifax, NS is CAD $70k – CAD $75k/year & benefits (see below).

The Role

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize Tableau dashboards and reports to meet business requirements.
  • Design and implement advanced Tableau features including level of detail expressions, parameters, sets, groups, hierarchies, and dashboard actions.
  • Write complex SQL queries and perform performance tuning on relational databases such as SQL Server and cloud-based databases.
  • Build and manage logical and physical data models; create incremental extract refreshes and deploy high-volume data sources.
  • Manage Tableau Server environment including folders, permissions, groups, schedules, subscriptions, alerts, and publishing workflows.
  • Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to develop efficient data pipelines, data models, and transformations.
  • Ensure dashboards are export-friendly, user-friendly, and aligned with modern UI/UX standards.
  • Conduct performance tuning and troubleshooting of Tableau reports and data sources.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience with Tableau Desktop, with at least 50% of daily work involving Tableau dashboard development.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and RDBMS, including SQL Server and cloud databases, with expertise in advanced SQL querying, indexing, performance optimization, and query simplification.
  • Practical experience with Tableau features such as:
  • Dashboard navigation and design.
  • Export-friendly dashboards.
  • Modern UI/UX concepts.
  • Level of details expressions, groups, sets, hierarchies, combined fields.
  • Use of parameters and dashboard actions (all types).
  • Financial calculations like weighted averages, ratios, and industry-specific metrics.
  • Deep understanding of logical and physical data modeling, incremental data extract refreshes, managing high-volume data sources, and configuring Tableau published data sources.
  • Knowledge of Tableau Server administration including:
  • Folder and permission management.
  • User groups (local and Active Directory).
  • Scheduling, tasks, subscriptions, alerts.
  • Publishing options and best practices.

Preferred, but not required:

  • Knowledge of data modeling, ETL processes, data structures, data wrangling, transformation, and data blending.
  • Experience with Tableau Server API and Hyper API.
  • Familiarity with scripting and automation tools such as batch scripting, Control-M scheduler, and Python programming.
