Client Portfolio Management Specialists (CPMS) act as representatives of Manulife Investment Management’s investment teams.  They are tasked with developing a thorough understanding of our investment strategies and the underlying portfolios, including general positioning, holdings, and performance attribution, as well as general market and industry knowledge.

CPMS’ serve as a key member of our investment teams and with this knowledge are responsible for effectively positioning and communicating the Firm’s capabilities, views, positions and performance to current and prospective clients, consultants, and prospects as well as internal constituencies. CPMS’ serve as a key interface between the Sales and Relationship Management Teams and the investment teams, addressing many client and prospective client inquiries, thereby enabling our investment teams to focus on managing our clients’ assets.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work with Manulife Investment Management’s Canadian Fixed Income team on all aspects of Client Portfolio Management, including the interpretation, articulation and dissemination of key investment strategy content - philosophy, process, results and overall key market positioning and messaging - for existing and new strategies.

  • Serve as an investment management contact for clients and act as a spokesperson for the team’s investment philosophy, process and strategy in support of winning new portfolio mandates with prospective clients, consultants and intermediaries.

  • Work with the marketing and sales administration team to develop marketing collateral including presentations, RFP/database content, and other relevant materials required to describe and position assigned strategies and teams.

  • Conduct on-going research to track key competitors, market trends and threats and incorporate into product positioning and communication to key constituents globally to ensure competitiveness of existing products.

  • Examine and monitor characteristics and statistics for assigned strategies to understand and be a source of knowledge on covered strategies.

  • Interact with key personnel across Manulife IM as well as our prospects, clients and consultants in a highly professional manner.

  • Consult with sales executives regarding sales strategy for each sales opportunity, in conjunction with lead CPM (if applicable).

  • Able to work independently in the answering, editing, and completing requests for proposals and questionnaires (from base template or in response to RFPs) with accuracy and by deadlines prior to review by lead CPM.

  • Interact with compliance and legal teams to review and obtain approvals on all terms of reference relevant to an RFP.

  • Prepare new business presentations and pull together the necessary materials required to provide solutions and quality service to prospects, clients and consultants.

  • Perform other duties as required, which may include activities such as supporting new product development activities or providing input into other product team projects and initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance or a related field; CFA and/or MBA preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a CPMS, product management, portfolio specialist, investment director or similar role, preferably within an institutional asset management organization

  • Strong fixed income asset class, strategy and market knowledge

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with and coordinate between various groups within a global organization

  • Understanding of sales & relationship management process within an asset management organization

  • Knowledge of the marketplace, and trends with and the needs of both institutional and retail sales channels

  • Strong analytical skills and command of key investment management principles

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Ability to work independently in a role with significant impact on client interaction, both internally and externally

  • Strong PC skills, including familiarity with key industry related software and databases

Salary range is expected to be between

$132,000.00 CAD - $231,000.00 CAD

Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
