FORT Robotics seeks talented and driven Senior Embedded Software Engineers to join our Device Platform team. This team develops the core embedded software to power our cutting-edge safety systems and devices. In this pivotal role, you will design, develop, and maintain critical foundational software components that ensure robust, reliable performance of our safety devices.

We currently have three exciting opportunities within our Device Platform team:

  • Three openings for candidates at levels 3 or 4 (mid to senior level), focusing on general embedded software engineering.
  • One specialized role for a candidate with expertise in factory acceptance testing & provisioning. 

Responsibilities:

  • Embedded Software Development
    • Design, implement, and rigorously test robust and efficient embedded software, ensuring well-documented and maintainable code.
    • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to streamline software delivery.
    • Contribute to and refine the device platform software architecture, proactively identifying opportunities for incremental improvements.
    • Follow a safety-oriented software development lifecycle to achieve relevant safety certifications.
  • Integration and Optimization
    • Integrate software with hardware, collaborating closely with hardware engineers.
    • Support the System Integration and Test team in developing new tests and troubleshooting issues.
    • Debug complex embedded software issues and optimize software performance.
  • Collaboration
    • Participate in thorough code reviews and contribute to continuously improving software development processes.
    • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and achieve organizational goals.
    • Create and maintain clear and comprehensive technical documentation.

Qualifications:

Required

    • 5+ years of experience in embedded software development.
    • Strong proficiency in C and C++ for embedded systems.   
    • Expert knowledge of RTOS concepts, preferred experience in FreeRTOS or Zephyr.
    • Strong understanding of IP networking protocols and experience developing network-enabled embedded applications.
    • Experience debugging embedded systems using JTAG, GDB, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other hardware/software tools.
    • Experience with standard communication interfaces: SPI, I2C, RS-232, USB, CAN.
    • Experience with Python (experience with test automation is a plus).
    • Experience with unit testing frameworks for C/C++ in embedded systems, preferably Ceedling.
    • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, preferably GitLab.
    • A B.S. in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Aerospace Engineering is preferred.

Preferred

    • Experience with embedded Linux application development using C++.
    • Experience with wireless communication methods such as BLE and ISM.
    • Experience with safety-critical software development, including knowledge of safety standards (ISO 26262, IEC 61508, etc.).
    • Experience implementing embedded system security features such as secure boot or cryptographic libraries.
