Successful candidate will be responsible for data modelling within BMO’s instance of Anaplan to support BMO’s planning and forecasting functions within Finance.  Individual should possess an Anaplan Certified Model Builder accreditation with field experience implementing various large-scale projects utilizing iterative/agile project management methodology and domain best practices.  Candidate will be the subject matter expert for data integration, translation, and transformation from input sources into models/reports/dashboards and will coordinate with various business and technology stakeholders to develop intermediate/advanced business intelligence models, interpreting business requirements into effective solution designs.  The incumbent should possess strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills with the ability to use creative thinking to solve complex business/technical problems.

Applies knowledge of advanced to deliver better intelligent automation that enables smarter business decisions, improved customer experience, and drives productivity. Applies strong communication and story-telling skills to draw business conclusions, and present actionable insight in a way that resonates with business/groups. Drives innovation through the development of that can be leveraged across the organization and establishes best practices in in alignment with governance frameworks of BMO.

o    3-4 years’ experience as an Anaplan Certified Model Builder

o    Minimum 2-3 years of Anaplan implementation experience, covering at least 4 projects as a Model Builder

o    Ability to review existing models in line with best practices and build customized Anaplan models based on customer requirements

o    Collaborate with project team to build Anaplan models in line with best practices and leadership guidance with adherence to any applicable governance requirements and project management methodology

o    Provide training to project team members and stakeholders as required

o    Supports Anaplan Solution Architect and other Model Builder team members in implementation

o    Strong knowledge of Excel – develop macros, model large data sets

o    Ability to translate Excel-based spreadsheets/templates into effective and efficient Anaplan model designs following best practices

o    Experience with some mix of Oracle, OneStream or other complex modelling tools

o    Subject matter experience in various Finance domains such as Financial Planning & Analysis

o    Experience in a number of areas such as Finance transformation, process transformation, planning/forecasting, business management and reporting, etc.

o    Additional consulting or industry experience would be an asset

o   Acts as a trusted advisor to assigned business/group.

o   Influences and negotiates to achieve business objectives.

o   Recommends and implements solutions based on analysis of issues and implications for the business.

o   Assists in the development of strategic plans.

o   Identifies emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making.

o   Understands and analyzes complex business problem, then formulates data-driven hypotheses to drive business value.

o   Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders and ensures alignment.

o   Supports data collection, integration, and retention requirements for data.

o   Develops experimental design approaches to validate findings or test hypotheses.

o   Defines innovative data solutions to loosely defined business problems by leveraging pattern detection over potentially large datasets.

o   Diagnoses and resolves predictive / analytical model performance issues while monitoring system performance and implementation of efficiency improvements.

o   Applies innovative and best practices to advanced analytics services to ensure high quality standards.

o   Sets up change control and testing processes to ensure the quality and consistency of ongoing maintenance work.

o   Develops analytical solutions and makes recommendations based on an understanding of the business strategy and stakeholder needs.

o   Provides advice and guidance to assigned business/group on implementation of analytical solutions.

o   Works with stakeholders to identify the business requirements, understand distinct problems and expected outcomes, and models and frames business scenarios which impact critical business processes and/or decisions.

o   Works with various data owners to discover and select available data from internal sources and external vendors (e.g. lending system, payment system, external credit rating system, and alternative data) to fulfill analytical needs.

o   Applies scripting / programming skills to assemble various types of source data (unstructured, semi-structured, and structured) into well-prepared datasets with multiple levels of granularities (e.g., demographics, customers, products, transactions).

o   Develops agreed analytical solution by applying suitable statistical & machine learning techniques (e.g., A/B testing, prototype solutions, mathematical models, algorithms, machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence) to test, verify, refine hypotheses.

o   Summarizes statistical findings and draws conclusions, presents actionable business recommendations. Presents findings & recommendations in a simple, clear way to drive action.

o   Documents data flow, systems and processes in data collection to improve efficiency and apply use cases.

o   Performs experimental design approaches to validate finding or test hypotheses.

o   Uses the appropriate algorithms to discover patterns.

o   Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders and ensures alignment.

o   Supports development of tools and delivers training for data analytics and AI.

o   Supports development and execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

o   Leads/participates in the design, implementation and management of core business/group processes.

o   Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.

o   Provides specialized consulting, analytical and technical support.

o   Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.

o   Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.

o   Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

§  Qualifications:

o   Typically between 5 - 7 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

o   Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, or other quantitative disciplines and/or equivalent experience

o   Experience with distributed computing language (e.g. Hive / Hadoop/ Spark) & cloud technologies (e.g. AWS Sagemaker, AzureML).

o   Experience with programming languages (e.g. SQL, Python, R, SAS, SPSS, , Perl) and machine learning /deep learning algorithms/packages (e.g. XGBoost, H2O, SparkML).

o   Deep proficiency in statistical analysis, quantitative analytics, forecasting/predictive analytics, multivariate testing, and optimization algorithms.

o   Deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience.

o   Verbal & written communication skills - In-depth.

Salary:

$100,800.00 - $187,200.00

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
