Mercer University is searching for a Compliance Specialist on the Macon campus.


 

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the AVP of Equity and Compliance/Director of Title IX, the Compliance Specialist shares responsibility for the University's overall compliance with Title IX, Title VII, Title VI, and VAWA and for advancing the University's training/education and ongoing awareness of laws, policies, and reporting requirements. The Compliance Specialist facilitates the University's commitment to a working and learning environment free from discrimination, including discrimination or harassment based on race, color, national or ethnic origin, disability, marital status, veteran status, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or a medical condition related to pregnancy or childbirth), sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, age, or religion (except in limited circumstances where religious preference is permitted by law), or any other protected status or characteristic as defined by law. The Compliance Specialist will assist in overseeing and implementing actions to comply with all aspects of discrimination and harassment, specifically, record keeping, training, and education. The Compliance Specialist will be responsible for managing all online training for the entire university, which includes multiple campus locations and online students/employees. Prior experience with Catharsis Training is a huge plus. The Compliance Specialist will manage all aspects of the Equity and Compliance website to ensure timely posting of law requirements, university changes, updating reporting forms, processes and appropriate graphics. The Compliance Specialist will perform required NCAA checks and required NCAA online trainings for Mercer University.  The Compliance Specialist will also act in a supportive role to the office to ensure record keeping is maintained, properly managed and updated. As needed, the Compliance Specialist may serve as a Co-Investigator and, as assigned, investigate complaints of alleged violations of Mercer University’s Harassment and Non-Discrimination Policy and Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Criminal Justice, or other related discipline and two years of professional experience working in higher education and/or directly related experience are required. Prior directly related experience could include working with Title IX directly, Student Affairs, Student Conduct, HR Compliance, and/or Housing and Residence Life.

In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education and directly related work experience will also be considered.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • A working understanding of 2020 Title IX Laws and 2024 Title IX Laws, including differences and commonalities.

  • Understanding of discrimination laws.

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively in public settings.

  • Experience with utilizing virtual formats to conduct meetings, trainings, and leading workshops.

  • Ability to learn and work with Catharsis.

  • Familiarity with NCAA training obligations and maintaining compliance.

  • Ability to learn and work with WordPress and manage websites.

  • Customer service-oriented with strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.

  • Ability to interact with a diverse population and maintain a composed, positive attitude in times of crisis.

  • Experience transcribing notes, note-taking, and investigation skills to serve as a co-investigator for complaints of discrimination, discriminatory harassment, retaliation, and sexual misconduct.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive and personal information.

  • Strong attention to detail.
