Your Team:

Payments Policy and Advocacy is a small, specialised team working at the crossroads of payments policy, digital innovation, and regulatory reform. The team is responsible for formulating group positions on the key issues impacting payments and influencing regulatory and policy outcomes to support a safe, sustainable and innovative payments system. Working closely with business leaders, Payments Policy and Advocacy monitors the external environment and consults internally and externally to proactively design solutions to payments related public policy issues. We advocate on behalf of the business to drive change, including by participating in government and regulatory consultations and leveraging the activities of Government & Industry Affairs and industry association memberships.

Your Role:

As the Senior Manager Payments Policy and Advocacy, you will report into the Head of Payments Policy. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Research, monitor, and analyse developments and trends in politics and public policy relevant to payments, including proactively identifying potential and actual business risks and opportunities.

  • Formulate positions on key issues impacting payments to drive outcomes that support CBA’s payments strategy.

  • Support regulatory reform to adapt to new and emerging technologies by sharing Group insights.

  • Work across functions and consult externally and internally to guide business solutions in response to key policy issues and developments.

  • Draft submissions and participate in consultations relevant to the payments system.

  • Write timely and accurate briefing notes for senior internal stakeholders on payments related political, policy and industry issues of significance to the Group.

  • Represent the Group in internal and external forums such as industry working groups and meetings.

  • Drive thought leadership in payments by shaping narratives across conferences, panels, and stakeholder forums.

  • Appropriately manage risk relevant to the role.

We're interested in hearing from people who have:

  • Experience in public policy, banking or finance within a similar role is highly regarded.

  • An understanding of payments and the digital economy is desirable.

  • Experience in the day-to-day management of public policy issues including the provision of timely advice and the preparation of accurate responses within deadlines.

  • Demonstrated understanding of government and legislative processes and the role of regulators.

  • Appreciation and understanding of stakeholder management within large national organisations and a proven ability to build relationships and get the best out of people at all levels.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication capability particularly with making complex issues simple.

  • Commercial acumen to discern potential impacts of policy changes to our business models/operations.

  • Ability to analyse public and private data to assist with policy development and advocacy is desirable.
