Job Description

Technical and transactional accounting support

  • Independently apply Brookfield’s IFRS policies and procedures to provide technical and practical solutions

  • Support all global Finance teams in applying Brookfield’s IFRS policies and procedures

  • Present complex transactions and accounting treatments in a clear and concise manner

  • Determine accounting treatments for acquisitions, dispositions, restructurings and financing activities under IFRS by reviewing legal agreements and investment memos, researching accounting guidance, and collaborating with various internal or external groups (tax, legal, investments, etc.):

    • Perform analyses and prepare draft accounting memos in sufficient detail to meet internal documentation requirements

    • Work closely with external and internal auditors to assist with their audit review over transactions

    • Research accounting literature, local GAAP or IFRS, and Brookfield’s policies and procedures to perform accounting analyses

    • Review legal, tax and investments documents for accounting analysis

      • Work with legal, tax and investments teams to obtain a thorough understanding of a transaction or restructuring activity, from both accounting and commercial perspectives

      • Capable of conducting meaningful discussions with tax, legal and investments teams 

    • Identify potential impacts to IFRS financial statements from transactions or restructuring activities

  • Support internal teams in drafting and/or reviewing legal entity and consolidation journal entries, as related to transactions or restructuring activities

  • Support internal teams in the IFRS reporting processes for transactions, e.g., review reporting templates 

  • Support the technical accounting aspect of the conversion from local GAAP to IFRS, as required

  • Special projects, as required

Required experiences and technical skills

  • Great attention to detail

  • 4-6 years of work experience required, with the following relevant experiences in a technical or transaction accounting role, or demonstrating strong potential in the following areas:

    • Experience in reviewing legal, tax and investment documents or other transaction documents

    • Experience in conducting research in accounting literature

    • Experience in independently performing accounting analyses based on relevant fact patterns and accounting guidance, and identifying areas that require judgment

    • Experience in preparing accounting memos, policy papers and/or financial reports

  • Working knowledge of US GAAP and/or IFRS, e.g., consolidation, financial instruments and/or lease accounting

  • Practical knowledge of public company reporting and/or real asset transactions preferred

  • Strong Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills

  • CPA preferred

Salary Range: $120,000 - $140,000

Our compensation structure is comprised of a base salary and a short-term incentive program (cash bonus). Cash compensation tends to vary based on geography to account for local market conditions and is set to be market competitive. Compensation decisions are based on a number of factors including relative experience, overall years of experience, industry experience, education and designations.
