RSM's CFO Advisory team within the Management Consulting practice provides strategy, advisory services, and hands-on assistance to improve the overall effectiveness of the finance function.

We are looking for a Manager to join our CFO Advisory Practice in Toronto to work with businesses in diverse industries while managing teams to deliver projects on time, on budget and in line with client expectations! You will work on numerous projects per year, managing several pieces of assignments, not just one small part, and you will feel a great sense of accomplishment when you are done! This role is an in-market leadership and delivery role for Toronto and is expected to have a focus on the Toronto Market – following:

  • Identifying, growing and developing opportunities, accounts and relationships in the Toronto market alongside Management Consulting leadership.

  • Bringing the full strength of the firm across Consulting (e.g. Risk, Actuarial etc.) as well as across our other Lines of Business (i.e. Audit & Tax) to drive growth within the Toronto market

  • Support with the development and growth of a delivery team within CFO Advisory in Toronto (and across other Management Consulting – e.g. CIO Advisory, Human Capital Advisory, Program & Project Management etc.) focused on serving clients within the Toronto market

  • Being ‘hands-on’ and delivering on client engagements alongside our CFO Advisory and Management Consulting teams

  • Having a secondary focus on our broader North American market alongside our North American teams – this includes having a secondary focus on North American growth through various channels as well as delivery on North American projects

Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of projects to help optimize all elements of the finance organization including:

  • Finance Operating Model Assessment

  • Business Process Improvement

  • Finance Technology Assessment and System Selection

  • Shared Services Implementation

  • Business Case Development

  • Post-Merger Integration

  •  Finance Automation

  •  Finance Transformation

  • Finance Technology Deployment

  • Drive high-quality work within expected timeframes and on budget

  • Monitor progress, manage risk and ensure clients are kept informed about progress and expected outcomes

  • Embrace a ‘hands-on’ approach as needed to help clients overcome specific challenges including support with accounting month/period-end, data clean-up, data review and data reconciliation, and direct support with accounting standards adoption/transition (e.g. transition to IFRS, adoption of new accounting standard)

  • Get regularly involved in internal and external business development activities and identify new opportunities through various channels

  • Understand firm capabilities and have ability to expand client service across lines of business

  • Manage engagement and project financials

  • Develop industry specialization and drive targeting, marketing, and training activities within the industry of focus

  • Build client relationships and deliver quality client services

  • Oversee and drive multiple concurrent projects to completion and assist our clients uncover additional areas of opportunity and manage the business development process

  • Develop new products, solutions, and deliverables for the rapidly changing finance environment

  • Provide mentoring and motivate diverse client engagement teams by delivering constructive on-the-job coaching to team members, while fostering an innovative and inclusive team-oriented work environment

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • 5 – 7 years’ experience working in a professional services or CPA firm
  • 2+ years of experience leading and managing project teams
  • Experience as a team lead or project manager on at least one full life cycle technology implementation / finance transformation
  • Expert understanding of the finance and accounting function and the people, process, technology and controls that support that function
  • Subject matter expertise in financial business processes, including procure to pay, order to cash, record to report, acquire to retire, plan to act (FP&A), treasury management as well as other functions under the CFO’s purview
  • Extensive experience in developing and building proposals
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment
  • Executive presence and an understanding of stakeholder/client relationship management
  • Proven experience collaborating with clients and other professional services areas
  • Ability to travel more than 50% locally and internationally
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or MBA
  • Previous experience serving in the following industries / sectors considered extremely valuable:
    • Canadian Public Sector (Federal, Provincial, Regional, Municipal & adjacent agencies)
    • Canadian Institutional Funds / Pension Funds
    • Real Estate
    • Insurance & Re-Insurance
    • Private Equity
  • Operational, Full-Cycle Accounting and Finance experience valued
  • Functional understanding of finance technology/ERP application capabilities including NetSuite, Intacct/Sage, Microsoft Dynamics, BlackLine, Workiva, Adaptive Insights (Workday), and/or Oracle EPM/Hyperion
  • Fundamental and foundational understanding of AI and the applicability to Finance and Accounting.  This includes the ability to identify specific functional use-cases for Artificial Intelligence across the Finance and Accounting Operating Model as well as the ability to articulate leading practices associated with phased-AI adoption for the Finance and Accounting function.
  • Experience in defining systems strategy, developing systems requirements, designing and prototyping, testing, training, defining support procedures, and implementing practical business solutions under multiple deadlines
  • Experience in the development of teams
  • Exposure to or experience in mid-market industries and demonstrated commitment to gaining exposure to multiple industries
  • Industry or profession-focused certifications like Six Sigma and/or PMP
  • Experience delivering post-merger integration and carve-out initiatives in the finance space

The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $98,000 - $167,000

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
