  • The Chief Engineer reports to the Master.
  • Responsible for executing tug maintenance on board in accordance with the planned maintenance schedule and budget
  • Maintenance and repair of marine plant and equipment;
  • Supervision of personnel undertaking and assisting in the engineering function;
  • Signing off on maintenance work completed;
  • Preparation of maintenance and operational reports as required;
  • Participation in safety training, including the training of other crew members;
  • Assisting other engineers as required;
  • Monitoring and review of relevant occupational health and safety standards and procedures and reporting as appropriate;
  • Ensuring day to day compliance with relevant environmental regulations;
  • Participation in operational improvement exercises and liaison with SVITZER management regarding improved operational procedures, leading to a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Daily correct use and maintenance of all machinery, safety and environment protection equipment
  • The correct keeping of Engine Logbook and Oil Record Book (when applicable)
  • Comply with local, regional, national and international legislation.
  • Responsible for all bunker and internal oil transfers according to Bunkering of Fuel and Oils and Internal Transfer of Bunkers or Oil Products
  • Comply with the regulations of the company safety management system.
  • Where required through local working arrangements; To perform operational duties, as required and directed, related to all tasks of the vessel including mooring/unmooring and tow line connection/disconnection.
  • Induction training of visitors, employees and other persons authorized by SVITZER to access the vessel where a Master or Deck Officer is unavailable.

Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • III/3 - Ch Eng - less than 3000kW
  • Basic Safety Training (STCW A-VI/1)
  • Advanced Fire Fighting (STCW A-VI/3)
  • Proficiency Survival Craft and Rescue Boat (STCW A-VI/2)
  • Proficiency in Medical First Aid (A-VI/4-1)
  • Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties A-VI/6
  • Valid Seafarer Medical
