Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work on defined projects and initiatives that support worker health, safety, and environmental compliance (eg. Government submissions, risk assessments, etc.)
  • Assist in program & procedure development and implementation
  • Collect process data and perform calculations
  • Track and follow up with sites to ensure timely reporting
  • Review HSE related KPI's in order to target areas of improvement
  • Assist in compiling government reporting for North America
  • Update the department’s internal documentation library
  • Liaise with plant staff on health, safety and environmental issues
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • May require some travel to manufacturing sites within Toronto GTA
  • Should be comfortable to wear personal protective equipment including safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hat and gloves

Qualifications, Skills and Education:

  • Must be enrolled as a 3rd or 4th year student in a recognized post-secondary Co-op education program  in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Science
  • Strong interest in health and safety and/or environmental studies
  • Excellent organization and analytical skills
  • Strong communication (written, verbal, presentation) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish priorities and work effectively in a team
  • Strong technical writing skills to be able to create documents for an adult learning audience
  • Strong commitment to the Health and Safety and the Environment

Preferred Experience:

  • Knowledge of health, safety and/or environmental legislation will be an asset
  • Prior experience in an industrial manufacturing environment would be an asset
  • Ability to read and interpret safety and environmental legislation and engineering documents
  • Excellent working knowledge of tools like MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point), SharePoint, etc.
  • Candidates must have their own transportation as travel may be required
