About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Director of Reinsurance to join Coalition’s rapidly expanding Coalition Re team. As a Director, you will play a pivotal leadership role in shaping the future of our reinsurance products, driving the growth of existing portfolios, and overseeing the overall P&L. You will be responsible for leading senior-level strategic initiatives, building and managing relationships with key reinsurance brokers, cedants, and capacity partners, while ensuring the profitability and sustainability of our reinsurance book. The Director will lead and collaborate across multiple teams, including Product, Engineering, Claims, and Actuarial, to design innovative reinsurance solutions, while maintaining a strong focus on the broader market trends and evolving needs of the cyber reinsurance sector.

This is a fully remote position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic development, pricing, and structuring of reinsurance products, ensuring alignment with Coalition’s growth objectives and market positioning.
  • Oversee and drive the expansion of existing reinsurance portfolios, consistently achieving revenue and profitability targets.
  • Cultivate and maintain senior-level relationships with reinsurance brokers, cedants, and capacity partners, representing Coalition at the executive level in key strategic engagements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Modeling, and Pricing teams to create innovative reinsurance products and go-to-market strategies.
  • Lead the negotiation and management of complex reinsurance transactions and ensure the execution of profitable deals.
  • Supervise the development of quarterly and annual budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational financial goals.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of the cyber reinsurance marketplace, including market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks, to guide strategic decisions.
  • Represent Coalition at industry conferences and events, enhancing the company’s presence and establishing thought leadership in the cyber reinsurance space.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to a team of underwriting professionals, fostering a high-performance culture and continuous development.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in underwriting (particularly reinsurance) with a focus on cyber risk and a proven track record of success at a senior leadership level.
  • Demonstrated expertise in building and managing profitable reinsurance portfolios, with a strong ability to scale businesses rapidly and sustainably.
  • Strong leadership skills with a background in managing cross-functional teams, including modeling, actuarial, and claims functions.
  • Excellent relationship-building, negotiation, and influencing skills, with a high degree of expertise in navigating complex client and partner interactions.
  • Deep knowledge of the cyber risk market, including evolving trends in coverage, underwriting practices, and loss history.
  • Proven ability to represent an organization at the highest levels, with exceptional communication, presentation, and sales capabilities.
  • Strategic thinker with a creative, solution-oriented mindset for overcoming challenges and identifying opportunities in a fast-evolving marketplace.
  • A 4-year college degree or equivalent industry experience; advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., CPCU, ARM) are a plus.

Compensation

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The US base salary for this position ranges from $200,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $230,000/year in our highest geographic market. Consistent with applicable laws, an employee's pay within this range is based on a number of factors, which include but are not limited to relevant education, skills, job-related knowledge, qualifications, work experience, credentials, and/or geographic location.
